$20/HR Yard Laborer Omaha Track is the innovative product and service supplier to the railroad industry-dedicated to providing excellence, quality, and value. Position Description The Yard Laborer is responsible for performing physical labor, such as cutting, sorting, and moving materials throughout the rail yard. Major Areas of Responsibility Utilize a hand operated rail saw to cut rail as instructed Utilize hydraulic spike pullers, bolt guns, and hand tools to remove tie plates from ties Utilize a hydraulic drill for drilling relay rail Sort Other Track Materials (OTM) on the sort belt Clean switches using hand tools Sort and move miscellaneous railroad materials, including ties, tie plates, joint bars, anchors, etc. Perform general maintenance and upkeep on all company property and equipment utilized Clear weeds and brush from tracks, switches, and around the yard. Participate in all job briefings and conduct proper radio communications Practice proper housekeeping with clean, properly maintained vehicles, tools, and equipment Ensure compliance with all safety requirements, policies, and procedures Report all job site incidents and injuries to the facility manager immediately Complete and maintain all required safety training and certifications Adhere to all railroad and Omaha Track rules and regulations Minimum Qualifications Previous general labor experience is a plus but is not required High school diploma or equivalent preferred Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently Demonstrated intermediate mechanical and basic mathematical skills Effective listening skills, including the ability to interpret, document, and follow oral instructions Valid driver’s license preferred (must not have any major driving offenses within the last three years) Must be able to pass a railroad background check to obtain and maintain the credentials to work on railroad property (i.e. no criminal convictions within the last seven years, must not have completed a jail sentence or probation within the last five years) Work Requirements Dependable and consistent attendance/punctuality Understand and accurately interpret/follow laws, rules, regulations, and other railroad/Omaha Track guidelines Ability to operate a hand operated rail saw for prolonged periods of time Ability to follow instructions to complete tasks independently or as a team Ability to work outdoors in a rail yard environment subject to all elements and conditions Ability to meet all functional requirements including, but not limited to lifting/carrying (up to 60lbs), sitting, kneeling, climbing, standing, walking, bending, squatting, pulling, finger dexterity, and reaching above/below shoulders Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Demonstrate punctuality and attention to detail. Ability to follow written, visual (drawings or images), and verbal instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Perform repeated physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting (to waist and overhead), balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials. The ability to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted and overhead and heavier weights with assistance. Position requires a valid driver’s license certificate. OSHA10 Certification (certification can be received after hire)
