JOB DESCRIPTION: Bakery Assistant Role Details: Compensation: $17 - $20/hour depending on experience (subject to periodic increases based on performance) Schedule: Part-time (to start with; may become full-time); 16-20 hours per week (schedule is flexible) Locations: Gaithersburg, MD, Takoma Park, MD Looking for a bakery assistant, who is passionate about baking and is willing to learn. All experience levels are welcome as long as you have willingness to learn! Join our artisanal bakery, which is currently in our home in Gaithersburg, MD, but will soon be moving to a commercial space in Takoma Park, MD. Qualifications: • Basic knowledge of baking. • Desire to learn supportive baking tasks, such as measuring out ingredients, preparing cookie and scone dough, etc. • Ability to learn and adapt quickly. • Great attention to detail; each baking task has a specific purpose and the degree to which it is executed well is crucial to the quality of the finished product. • Self-starter and exhibiting self-motivating work ethic; willingness to learn to anticipate needs and meeting them. • Thorough cleaning skills. • Occasional heavy lifting (flour bags, bread trays, etc.) • Willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement to protect content of recipes and processes used in the bakery. • Willingness to sign a non-compete agreement, whereby employee will agree not to sell baked goods within a specific radius and for a specified amount of time. • Ability to pass a background check. Key Tasks: • Acting as baker’s second set of hands, focusing on prep tasks and learning what steps are involved in each task and anticipating them. With time, fully taking over and owning the prep tasks. • Performing supportive baking tasks, such as: helping to make and scoop out cookie dough, baking and packaging the cookies; helping to make and shape scone dough, baking and packaging the scones; helping to make, bake and package cake; etc. With time, becoming proficient in completing these baking activities independently from start to finish. • Preparing sourdough inclusions. • Cleaning up the bakery space and kitchen (organizing, vacuuming, mopping, wiping down surfaces, etc.) • Loading the dishwasher/washing all bakery dishes. • Preparing packaging and product labels. • Packaging all baked goods with exceptional attention to detail. • Willingness to help with miscellaneous bakery tasks as needed.
