Moffat is a ranching and farming community, with not a lot of commercial retail. Alamosa has a rich variety, as does Salida. Winter travel is rarely restricted, although Poncha Canyon into Salida can be tricky. The key is to wait a while after it snows for the roads to clear. It rare snows more than a couple of inches and it's typically gone in a day or two. 4WD is not a requirement.
