Title: Senior Associate Engineer (KAFKA) Location: Bethesda, MD Position: Contract Rate: Open Description:- • SPARK (or any other stream processing framework like Flume but SPARK & SPARK Streaming preferred) • Elastic Search (any other search engine will work too like Solr and Lucidworks but ElasticSearch is highly preferred over others) • KAFKA (or other evening / messaging systems like Rabbit MQ etc. but KAFKA will be highly preferred) • No SQL database (Couchbase, Mongo etc. but Couchbase highly preferred over others). • Akka based micro services implementation • Experience with architecture and developing enterprise applications that deal with data processing; no front-end implementation experience desired. • Applicant should be able to set up the tech stack locally, think through the solution options specifically from a faster data processing standpoint, and guide a set of developers on low level design. • Applicant should be able to work with disparate enterprise teams to gauge requirements and convert them into scalable application design. • Working with the offshore team creating design elements, guiding them on the application design based on requirements, and reviewing their deliverables. • Experience with other big data technologies is not needed but a data processing mindset is mandatory. Integrate open-source components to build solutions that meet enterprise-grade standards. Database Underlying Governance & Data Processing Conduct in-depth research and optimization of database underlying data governance, including data storage formats, data structures, indexing methods, data sharding, data compaction, data compression, data validation and repair, as well as data backup and recovery. Formulate efficient data governance strategies to ensure high-performance and secure data processing in a distributed environment. Performance Tuning & Resource Optimization Optimize multi-layer resources, including operating system I/O and network performance, to ensure system stability and high performance in complex environments. Monitor system performance metrics to promptly identify and resolve issues. System Maintenance & Disaster Recovery Design Design and implement routine operations, data backup and recovery, and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity. Establish operational standards for distributed applications and continuously optimize system stability and recoverability. Team Collaboration & Technical Guidance Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (development, operations, security, etc.) to ensure project success. Mentor team members in distributed systems, database governance, and performance tuning practices to elevate the overall technical expertise within the team Requirements REQUIRED SKILLS Educational Background Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Work Experience Over 5 years of experience in cloud computing, distributed systems, database systems, or related fields. Proven experience in architecture design and implementation within large-scale internet or enterprise systems Professional Skills Distributed System Theory: Deep understanding of CAP theory, BASE principles, ACID transactions, and consensus/consistency algorithms. Distributed Architecture Expertise: Mastery of common distributed architecture designs and the ability to propose effective solutions for various business scenarios. Database Underlying Governance: Proficient in data storage formats, data structures, indexing methods, data sharding, data compaction, data compression, data validation and repair, and strategies for data backup and recovery. Transaction Concurrency & Performance Tuning: Expertise in transaction concurrency control, with extensive experience in performance tuning (including OS I/O optimization, network optimization, etc.), as well as designing locking mechanisms and addressing read/write amplification issues in high-concurrency environments. Distributed Applications & Disaster Recovery: Familiarity with distributed application scenarios and the ability to design efficient solutions for daily operations and disaster recovery. Development Skills: Proficient in at least one major programming language (e.g., Java, Python, Go), with strong coding skills and a solid understanding of system design principles. ADDITIONAL SKILLS (PREFERRED) Experience in designing and implementing architectures on public cloud platforms (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
