Reporter (Delaware County\West Philadelphia)

The Spirit Media Group is looking for a staff reporter. What you will do:  Report on news in our coverage area which includes DE County; and West/Southwest Philadelphia.  Provide coverage of events and breaking news occurring in and around the coverage area and produce a report/story on what you covered in a timely manner. Photography skills are a huge plus.  Versatility is a must, as stories will cover a variety of topics  Along with producing stories that are assigned, the reporter should also be able to pitch story ideas on a regular basis  Research and develop stories to the utmost accuracy  Cultivate sources both in person and via social media  Maintain communication with a supervising editor  Understand and use company-provided hardware, software and cloud-based equipment and systems for company business and tasks  Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration with our small team of journalists What you will bring:  Journalism experience or the willingness to learn, knowledge and the ability to quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics. Spelling and grammar skills required  Experience working with various technologies for the position including PC laptops, digital cameras and recording equipment  Good people skills are necessary for conducting interviews with sources  A deep interest in (and understanding of) the workings of local government (city and county)  The ability to produce clean copy under tight deadlines is a must  Experience covering sporting events is a plus  Bachelor's degree preferred; experience in a professional journalism newsroom preferred  Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required Compensation: The right candidate will receive a competitive salary.
