I am offering a furnished room (10.5 x 12.5 ft) for rent in my two-bedroom Temescal flat, which is only two blocks walking distance from MacArthur BART station in the desirable Temescal neighborhood of North Oakland. The monthly rent of $1,000 includes a beautifully furnished and decorated room with high ceilings and abundant natural light (sheer and black out curtains installed for privacy/insulation), ALL UTILITIES (including PG&E and high speed Xfinity Wi-Fi), a monthly professional cleaning of the entire apartment, free bike storage, use of app-operated washers and dryers, and free Nespresso coffee! The room has a full size bed with Casper memory foam mattress, nightstand with working vintage radio, armoire closet, dresser, 32-inch Roku smart TV with many apps, several lamps, two different storage chests/benches, and an air purifier. Additional hanging space for clothing is available in the large living room closet. I would prefer someone who works or takes classes away from home. This is not ideal for a work-from-home situation. Common spaces include a large living room (with dining area, bay windows, 55-inch Roku TV, and air purifier), plus a fully-equipped kitchen with all of the cookware that you could possibly need (including a dishwasher, Cuisinart food processor, stand mixer, slow cooker, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, gas stove/oven, two different Nespresso coffee machines, extensive glassware collection, plenty of dishes, pots/pans, bakeware, high quality knives, Soda Stream, and more). The apartment has a shared bathroom with tub/shower combo and bidet. This 1920s-era apartment is accented with vintage/modern decor, extensive mood lighting, and many plants. I share my home with two very cute and friendly middle-aged kitties named Edie and Rosie, so you must love cats and not be allergic. No other pets are allowed at this time. This is a centrally-located, walkable neighborhood convenient to many modes of transportation, including BART (just two blocks away) and multiple AC transit lines (including the 57 and 6 buses). Numerous restaurants (such as Homeroom Mac n Cheese and Tacos Oscar), many bars/breweries (Temescal Brewing, The Avenue, Tallboy, Rose’s Taproom, North Light—to name just a few), Whole Foods Market, Piedmont Avenue, and countless other popular destinations are all within walking distance! I am asking for a $1,000 refundable security deposit, along with the monthly rent of $1,000 to be paid at rental agreement signing. It would be a six-month agreement, with the option to continue past that time frame if we both decided to do so. Ideally, I am looking for a longer term roommate. You would have the option of giving thirty-days-notice at any time. I would not want anyone to feel trapped if they decided it was not a good fit. While I am not particularly concerned about credit, I would need to verify your stable employment and/or income. Excellent behavior would be required at all times. This would not be best for someone sensitive to noise. I am a singer and practice in the apartment for reasonable periods of time. It is a space where noise travels easily. You would need to be ok with that and also not make excessive noise (especially during quiet hours) that could disturb neighbors. We do not have to be best friends, but shared meals or other activities from time to time would be welcomed. I enjoy cooking when I have time, listening to music, attending performances such as the opera, and doing things outside (such as days at the park or hiking). I am a gay man in his early 40s, so please be LGBT-friendly! This is also a “420 friendly” household. Smoking of tobacco products is not allowed. Exposing neighbors to any type of smoke is also not permitted. If you think this might be a good option for you, please do not hesitate to reply with details about yourself. Please include information about yourself and what you are looking for in a housing situation in your initial response to the ad. I look forward to hearing from you!
