What You'll Be Doing (Hands-On Production) We are seeking a Production Helper, and while experience in woodworking or carpentry is a huge plus, we will fully train the right motivated candidate! This role offers diverse, hands-on shop duties, including: Precision work like cutting glass, glazing, and Insulated Glass Unit (IGU) production. Assembling custom windows: sanding, cutting, screwing, and gluing frame components. Finishing processes, glazing, SDL application, painting and more. Occasionally assisting with local deliveries and customer service. Requirements Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task. Comfortable operating power tools and performing basic shop math (e.g., reading a tape measure). Able to occasionally lift and carry heavy items. Maker of high-end cabinetry and furniture, specializing in custom work, is looking for a skilled woodworker / shop assistant with a minimum of 1 yr. experience in a professional shop. You would be assisting me on some projects and working independently on others. Every project we do is different and new, and the focus is always on quality, precision and craftsmanship. The right candidate must be thoroughly familiar with all the major woodworking machinery (jointer, planer, panel saw, cabinet saw, bandsaw; extra credit for shaper) and the safety protocols and practices that go with them. If you get to the interview stage, you will be tested on these. Typical tasks for this position include: milling, cutting, sanding, edging, joinery and veneer work for the more advanced candidate, plus some shop maintenance. You must also be able to drive, lift heavy things, take direction and learn quickly on the job. This is a part-time position that can turn full-time relatively quickly for the right person. Starting pay and weekly hours will vary depending on experience. Our projects range from staircase and handrail installation to the installation & servicing of traditional wood windows. We occasionally work on brownstone scaffolds so a comfort with heights is helpful.
