Description

Provides safety and security services which include the implementation and administration of programs that assist the campus community in maintaining order and/or improving the personal safety of the students, faculty, staff, guests, and property of the College. This is a full time benefits eligible hourly position. The starting salary range for the position is $24.47 - $30.59 per hour. Some of the hours worked could also qualify for hourly shift differential rates and weekend shift differential. Hours worked between 6 p.m. and 12 a.m: an additional $1.50/hr Hours worked between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m: an additional $3.00/hr Hours worked on weekends an additional $1.00/hr. Core Responsibilities Patrol campus buildings and grounds, in assigned areas by various means, to promote safety, identify unsafe conditions and suspicious activity, document violations of College policies and state laws, and respond to incidents and complaints as necessary. Respond to emergencies, serious incidents and requests for assistance. Serves as a first responder to fire alarms, medical emergencies and conflicts on campus. Manage incidents using problem-solving, mediation and de-escalation strategies in accordance with College policies and procedures. Conduct preliminary and follow up investigations as needed. Complete detailed & professional incident reports and document shift activity via logs. Educate the campus community on topics in safety, security and College policy through interpersonal communications, organized instruction and enforcement. Provide general security services for the college community such as locking and unlocking buildings, rooms, gates and vehicles. Transport students to and from the campus Health and Wellness Center and local hospital. Maintain safe and orderly campus parking lots and roadways through parking education and enforcement. Requirements High school diploma. Post-secondary education preferred. Previous experience in higher education, institutional safety and security or law enforcement is desirable. Ability to satisfactorily complete specialized on-the-job training required. Valid driver's license and the ability to pass College-administered driving test required. Considered an essential staff position for College operations. Must have flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays and occasional long shifts. Will be required to work during designated "blackout" periods and campus emergencies. Must have proficiency in conflict resolution and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Must handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion and pass extensive investigative background check. Physical Demands Must be able to climb multiple flights of stairs several times per day. Must be able to walk long distances, for extended periods of time and on various types of terrain. Must be able to sit, stand and drive for extended periods of time. Must be able to get in and out of a vehicle several times per day. Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
