Carpenter/ or Apprentice Carpenter Minimum Requirements: If you are applying for a Carpenter’s Apprentice position you will get the opportunity to work on many different types of construction projects. From small projects like installing handrails, doors or windows, to larger jobs like bathroom and kitchen remodels all the way to full additions and building ADUs. You will learn all phases of construction and have the opportunity to grow into a journeyman level carpenter. If your skillset is applying for a carpenter’s position you must be willing to learn and develop the skills to work with multiple employees, customers, building products and have some practical experience. Examples of some desirable skills include: The ability to be proficient in multiple phone app platforms for time, materials and job tracking The ability to use hand and power tool, including drills, saws, nails guns, chisels, sanders, etc. Communicate clearly with the customers to include good written, verbal, follow up and telephone communications skills. Excellent human-relations skills – a sense of humor, a quick smile and thick skin. Basic skills in reading, writing and math. Stamina needed to operate equipment and tools and work in all weather conditions. Must be willing to participate in all correction efforts. The ability to work alone occasionally and make decisions best suited for the job Physical ability to crawl and work in small and confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics. Work from ladders when necessary. Lift up to 70 pounds when necessary. Responsibilities: A Carpenter/Apprentice can work in many different settings, depending on project requirements. Some of the primary duties of a Carpenter/Apprentice include: Framing wooden structures such as, joists, partitions, trusses, floor systems, stairs etc. Installing deck railing, decking and deck supports and structures Installing doors, windows, siding and trim Installing cabinets, door and trim packages and flooring Installing interior and exterior floor tile, wall tile and tile back splash Demolition and disposal of multiple building products such as tile, carpet, flooring, cabinets, doors, trim, countertops, drywall, framing, decking, roofing, concrete, doors, windows, siding and trim Interior and exterior caulking, priming, painting and staining Drywall repairs, hanging, taping and texturing Adding hardware including door handles, hinges, locks, grab bars, towel bars etc. Selecting lumber as per the requirements of the project and sourcing wood that fits within budget and meets style specifications Liaising with clients to discuss project details, budgets, and timelines Working with suppliers to obtain necessary material while staying within the customer budget Consulting with other employees to ensure the best possible results for the project Reading blueprints and designs prepared by other architects and/or construction professionals, and ensuring they meet the current project requirements and building code requirements. Our team puts in steady hours when working on a project. Some projects require working indoors, while others may involve outdoor work. For projects with set timelines and specific goals, an 8-hour workday may be sufficient, but sometimes, we work on urgent projects. This may involve overtime and long workdays. On a typical day, a Carpenter could design, build, get materials, engage with customers and suppliers, and work on multiple projects.
