Felsburg Holt & Ullevig is seeking a highly motivated Bridge Engineer, with 5-10 years experience to join our structures group. Our structures team works on exciting and collaborative projects across the Midwest and Rocky Mountain region. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Technical Design and Analysis: Complete analysis and design of various transportation structures including bridges, retaining walls and box culverts. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Take ownership for projects and lead the preparation of plans, reports and specifications for projects. Experience with CDOT, NDOT, SDDOT, or IADOT formats preferred. Client Facing and Team Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams and clients to define project goals and deliverables, ensuring strong communication throughout the design process. Serve as a client liaison, attending meetings, presenting solutions, and building relationships with stakeholders. Mentoring and Leadership: Mentor junior staff and participate in team development efforts, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture. Interdisciplinary Engagement: Work closely with transportation, environmental, and planning teams on multi-disciplinary projects to integrate structural solutions into broader project contexts. Requirements Education and / or Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required. Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with structural emphasis is preferred. 5-10 years of previous Bridge & Structures Engineering experience. Must have working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications. Proficiency in applicable bridge design software and structural analysis techniques is required. Must have familiarity with MicroStation, AutoCAD and other applicable software common to the field of structural and civil engineering. Project Management experience and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members is highly valued. Well established industry (client and colleague) relationships and a willingness to help lead or support proposal efforts. Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-first mindset. Proven ability to lead meetings, coordinate with diverse stakeholders, and translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights. Passion for both the technical success and community impact of a project, from concept through construction. Commitment to team development through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration. Enthusiastic about contributing to strategic planning and business development efforts. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: PE is Required   The pay for this position ranges from $90,000 - $125,000 annually. Reporting to the Discipline Leader, this position is responsible for leading a team of project managers, design professionals and technical support staff working with public sector (Municipal and State agency) clients and projects throughout the NY. The position is in our Syracuse, NY office. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Project development, client interaction, project management and technical design primarily for public sector clients (municipal, county, state and non-profit). Project management responsibilities include development of professional services proposals, management of projects and clients, development of technical approaches to projects, and participation in public presentations/engagement process. Develop projects with clients and then oversee and manage the project design and construction while interfacing with the client. Managing the project design requires interacting with less experience staff along with training and mentoring them. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering  15-20 years of practical experience in a professional consulting environment Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) NY is required. Candidate must be experienced in civil/environmental engineering with a preferred focus on all facets of municipal/public works engineering and water resources infrastructure. Effective communication skills using oral, graphic, and written forms. Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to travel to project sites and work remotely as needed. Ability to manage workload and budgets as allocated. Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to collaborate efficiently with teammates in different disciplines and different locations. Able to interact effectively with clients, project teams, and colleagues internally. Experience in project management and solid project financial management skills. Communications and analytical/problem solving skills are essential. Preferred Qualifications: Public Sector funding experience (NYSEFC, NYSDEC, WIIA, ETC.) for projects a plus.
