In this position, you will be responsible for the layout and validation of photonic integrated circuits, while developing software in a script-based layout framework to automate layout procedures such as design-rule checking (DRC), layout-versus-schematic (LVS), and mask preparation. As a Photonics Layout Automation Engineer, you would play a key role in developing cutting-edge solutions for advanced photonic integrated circuits. Responsibilities Own the layout of high-performance photonic integrated circuits using script-driven layout tools in Python. Collaborate to define the layout requirements, including schematic capture, fabrication process definition, and device component selection. Develop tool chains for automation of layout processes like LVS, DRC, and mask preparation. Collaborate with component designers to develop component libraries and our process design kit (PDK). Requirements Either 2+ years of relevant work experience or equivalent experience through an advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field. Understanding of basic programming principles including object-oriented and functional programming. Experience developing software collaboratively, using modern version control tools like Git or SVN. Familiarity with modern CI/CD development practices is a plus. Familiarity with Python and its package ecosystem (numpy/scipy, pytest, etc.) is preferred Experience with semiconductor schematic capture, layout, LVS, and DRC. Familiarity with KLayout is a plus. Familiarity with integrated photonics is a plus. Familiarity with scripted integrated photonics layout tools like GDSFactory, Nazca, IPKISS, Cadence, etc. Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is onsite at HyperLight HQ.
