Description

At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day. We're looking for a Senior Sustaining Quality Engineer to join our Supply Chain team in San Francisco, California. In this critical role, you'll be at the crossroads of Oura Manufacturing, R&D, and Member Experience. You'll work alongside our design teams, manufacturing and reliability engineers, and customer support teams to ensure the quality of Oura products throughout development, ramp, and sustaining phases. A key responsibility of this role is to continuously drive product quality from launch into sustaining operations, leveraging field data to inform decisions that reduce field failures, minimize warranty claims, and ensure ongoing improvements across the entire supply chain. You'll be instrumental in establishing and optimizing the Engineering Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) process flow, leading comprehensive Failure Analysis (FA) with Oura and supplier teams. Your efforts will drive the development and implementation of robust Corrective Actions (CA) through Design of Experiments (DOEs) and Product Release Qualifications (PRQs). You'll collaborate closely with Hardware, Software, and Customer Support teams to refine troubleshooting workflows and proactively monitor known and emerging issues within the EFFA program. Additionally, you'll manage general supplier quality responsibilities, including facilitating the development and successful ramp of New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, manufacturable, and scalable components and assemblies. You'll also be responsible for setting up robust quality systems at suppliers to ensure reliable data collection and analysis for program-critical decision-making. You'll create long-term strategies to continuously improve the Oura Supply Chain and the overall customer experience. This includes planning, developing, and implementing measurement methods, control plans, and other supply quality engineering processes to ensure part and product quality — all the way from the concept phase through high-volume mass production in our complex, global supply chain. You'll serve as a vital liaison between suppliers and designers, championing a culture of quality on behalf of Oura and our customers. Previous experience in reliability testing, test design, or product quality is required. This is a hybrid role based out of our San Francisco office with the expectation to be onsite 3 days per week. What you will do: Lead and refine the Engineering Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) program: Develop and optimize the EFFA workflow, meticulously categorize failure modes, and enhance customer service agent troubleshooting processes. Drive comprehensive Failure Analysis (FA) and Corrective Actions (CA): Partner with design, manufacturing, reliability teams, and suppliers to deeply understand field failures and implement robust corrective actions through Design of Experiments (DOEs) and Product Release Qualifications (PRQs) to mitigate issues, reduce failure rates, and elevate the customer experience. Manage Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Notices (ECN): Facilitate and track ECRs/ECNs driven by quality improvements, ensuring seamless implementation across the supply chain. Monitor and improve production quality and yield: Ensure yield bridging from NPI to mass production and proactively address quality alerts and special cases that impact product performance. Track and analyze warranty data: Implement warranty tracking and reporting mechanisms to identify trends, drive root cause analysis, and measure the impact of quality improvements, directly contributing to reduced warranty claims. Ensure continuous improvement in the supply chain: Conduct thorough supplier audits, identify opportunities for cost down initiatives related to quality, and support capacity expansion while maintaining high quality standards. Support Mass Production phase: Actively contribute to sustaining operations by applying a proactive quality mindset to ongoing production challenges. Collaborate on cross-functional initiatives: Work closely with customer care agents to refine failure modes, troubleshooting workflows, and decision-trees for warranty, replacement, and EFFA returns. Support reverse logistics operations (return, refurb, and resale). Take over Program Quality responsibilities: Assume ownership for quality throughout specific programs, from development to sustaining, ensuring adherence to quality gates and standards. Influence design and process improvements: Identify and effectively communicate design and process risks, using data-driven approaches to facilitate discussions and improvements across Oura teams and suppliers. Establish quality control parameters: Analyze and evaluate data to establish appropriate component specification limits (cosmetic, dimensional, functional/reliability) and define critical process control limits. This is a US Hybrid (3 days per week) role based in our San Francisco, California office. Requirements We would love to have you on our team if you have: Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a Supplier Manufacturing, Manufacturing Quality Engineer, Product Quality/Reliability Engineer role. Ideally seeking someone with strong FA/CA capabilities and testing experience who can quickly identify problems and implement fixes to reduce field failures and improve customer experience. Experience leading EFFA efforts or reliability testing. Experience working with final assembly factories and mechanical enclosures and/or electronics suppliers. Experience in supplier quality engineering in high volume handheld/wearable and/or consumer products with high cosmetic standards. Experience qualifying and auditing manufacturing processes including CNC and lathe fabrication, injection molding, and coatings/surface treatments (anodization, PVD, and soft touch). Strong understanding of quality principles and tools such as GRR, SPC, FA/CA, 8D, and DOEs. Strong understanding of manufacturing principles and tools such as DFM, SOP, GD&T, Six Sigma, and LEAN manufacturing principles. Demonstrated experience with Engineering Change Control (ECR/ECN) processes. Proven ability to implement warranty analysis and reduction strategies. Self-driven and eager problem solver who thrives in demanding, quick-paced environments. Well-organized and able to properly communicate complex issues and ideas succinctly through slide decks/email.
