Asst Director SpiderShop (Richmond)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The SpiderShop Assistant Director supports the SpiderShop Director with day-to-day operations, with oversight of stockroom and satellite operations, designated personnel, marketing and promotional events, the store website and annual projects. Assists the Director with policy development and provides coverage in the absence of the Director.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations 70%
Exercises oversight over daily operations.
Oversees the SpiderShop website to ensure alignment with university brand standards and guide its evolution into a modern, revenue-driving e-commerce platform.
Oversee e-commerce and in-store operations to optimize product visibility, transactions and order fulfillment.
Provides leadership and guidance to staff with a focus on customer conversion, upselling and peak traffic management, and scheduling staff accordingly.
Directs marketing and promotional strategies to increase sales, conversions and event driven revenue.
Evaluates ROI of campaigns and initiatives to prioritize efforts with the highest revenue impact.
Leverages campus partnerships, student ambassadors and advisory boards to expand market reach and boost sales opportunities.
Manages/provides oversight of stockroom operations.
Formulates all necessary organizational plans and procedures.
Manages all related logistics support.
Ensures safe, clean, and sanitary working environment.
Manages the operation of satellite UR SpiderShop stores including, but not limited to those in Robins Stadium, Robins Center, pop-ups, tents, and trailers.
Manages logistics: point-of-sale functions; transportation of merchandise; staffing; inventory and payment reconciliation.
Management 30%:
Provides leadership and management for UR SpiderShop, supervising safe, efficient operations and cultivating teamwork and customer service.
Represents UR SpiderShop within the University and the community in the manager's absence.
Assists with the development of policies and procedures necessary to operate the store smoothly while meeting performance and financial goals.
Open and close the store, as necessary.
Serves as second call for University Police for after-hours emergencies.
Manages student employees: hires, trains, and schedules.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Directly supervises and provides work direction to the SpiderShop associates, shipping & receiving associate, merchandiser, operations associate, and student employees.
Hires, schedules, and trains staff. Administers performance reviews and recommends salary increases, promotions, and terminations to the store director.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: Designated non-essential personnel. Work is typically conducted in an indoor environment; sitting and working at a computer for moderate time periods of time; standing, stooping, lifting, and reaching functions. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds. Includes some weekend hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated experience leading marketing and retail strategies that drive measurable revenue growth.
Strong understanding of e-commerce optimization, digital engagement and sales conversion tactics.
Knowledge of brand management and digital retail design to ensure the store's online presence meets University standards while boosting revenue.
Analyze sales data, interpret revenue reports and apply insights to increase profitability.
Ability to apply critical thinking, exercise flexibility, and work calmly and efficiently under pressure.
Skilled in leading teams and student staff with a focus on customer experience, upselling and sales effectiveness.
A collaborative leader skilled in organization, administration, and problem solving.
Working knowledge of retail point-of-sale systems, storeroom operations/logistics management and retail operations environment.
Ability to provide high level customer service, adhering to established standards.
Ability to interact and communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse campus community, exercising tact and diplomacy in written and verbal communications.
Skilled in the use of computers. Knowledge of software programs, including point-of-sale, data processing, spreadsheets. Ability to learn new software.
Must possess a current Virginia driver's license with a driving record in good standing.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in operations management, business administration, marketing or related field, preferred.
Three to five years' supervisory experience.
Two years' sales experience required, preferably in retail sales; college bookstore environment is preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time; Exempt
Monday-Friday 8:30AM-5:00PM, however, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
PAY STRUCTURE
Pay Grade 6 (Hiring range $47,154.00 to $62,483.00 annually)
