We are hiring for a Project Engineer to join our Bay Area Offices!   BKF has an immediate need for a project engineer with strong technical abilities and experience in land development project design. We are looking for individuals who can independently apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using their experience and judgment. Ability to plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of technical work in small to major projects. Provide assistance to senior level engineers and project managers in preparing current project status for keeping clients informed on progress and internal reporting. Supervise/coordinate and help lead the team of engineers, drafters, technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.   Responsibilities:  Project Design for Site Development Grading and Drainage Plans Utility Systems for Water and Sewer Report Preparation and Master Planning Studies preparation of specifications and cost estimates Roadway/Street final design package – Plan, Profile, Cross Sections Roadway Design: Streetscape, Green Streets, Bicycle Path Plans Federal, State, City and County Standards Report Preparation and Conceptual Studies Preparation of Specifications and Quantity Takeoffs/Cost Estimates Projects include residential, commercial, mixed-use and public works projects Requirements 3+ years of experience in site development and design of residential and/or commercial subdivisions, utility systems, roadways, and public works. B.S in Civil Engineering or related field from an ABET Accredited Curriculum or equivalent required EIT/ FE certification preferred Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus! Strong communication skills Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 20 pounds with accommodations. Work Conditions:  Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.  Travel to other BKF locations and client sites may be required.  Benefits The anticipated base salary range for this position is $95,000- $125,000, annualized depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. The Project Engineer will schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all the technical activities aiming at assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion. Job Duties: Manage multiple projects from pre-booking to customer final acceptance. Provide consultation on proposal development as required. Participate in the internal kick-off meeting from sales/estimating to the organization. Follow document management processes for project documentation to ensure compliance with business, contractual, and document retention requirements/laws. Manage the scope and deliverables from a technical & engineering aspect. Process customer single-line, schematic, and/or loop drawings. Establish and purchase a Bill of Material to be furnished by PBS. Establish the type of fabrication drawings required and once a CAD operator has been assigned to the project, communicate directly with the operator all necessary requirements and information pertaining to the job Establish the type of assembly, wiring, conduit, and/or tubing drawings required and communicate with the CAD operator all necessary requirements and information pertaining to the project. Obtain formal acceptance from the Customer for all contractual deliverables. Project Engineer
BKF Engineers is seeking a Project Engineer with 2–7 years of experience in transportation and roadway design. This role focuses on the technical design of roadway and multimodal projects, including grading, drainage, vertical alignments, traffic control devices, stormwater management, and complete streets elements. The ideal candidate will support all phases of project development, from conceptual planning and design to PS&E preparation and construction support, while collaborating with public agencies, consultants, and project teams. Key Responsibilities: Perform roadway geometric design, grading and drainage analysis, and vertical alignments for roadway and multimodal projects. Develop traffic control, pavement markings, and signing plans to enhance safety and operational efficiency. Prepare PS&E packages, including plan, profile, and cross-sections for roadway, trail, and grade separation projects. Analyze and integrate stormwater quality solutions, ensuring compliance with C.3 stormwater treatment and drainage standards. Coordinate with public agencies, including Caltrans, cities, counties, and transit agencies, to secure approvals and meet design requirements. Assist in utility coordination efforts, ensuring utility relocations align with project requirements. Provide construction support, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field coordination.
