Field Engineer - Camera and Planning Location: Remote (with on-site coordination as needed) About the Role: In this role, you'll design and optimize camera views, layout, and install/configure cameras for our AI-powered vision systems. You’ll work closely with the customer, camera technicians, and internal engineering teams to ensure optimal placement and coverage. Your work directly impacts the accuracy and performance of our AI models in the field. You should be fluent in layout and visualization tools (Lucidchart or similar, etc.), comfortable working with networked systems (IP camera configurations) and be able to speak the language of camera technicians and installers. Responsibilities: Design detailed camera placement plans and field-of-view diagrams Install, configure, and debug technical devices such as a basic server, camera, or POE Switch Collaborate with camera installers and technicians to ensure field feasibility of proposed layouts Consult directly with customers and field partners to understand site conditions and coverage goals in our unique healthcare environment Optimize camera placement for AI performance, including angles, lighting conditions, and field of view Translate business or AI system requirements into practical cameradeployment strategies Create and maintain documentation for camera layout standards, naming conventions, and best practices Support pre-sales or onboarding conversations with customers around site planning and camera layout You will be responsible for all aspects of our deployed cameras such as: configuration, lens angle, placement, layout planning, etc. Preferred: Understanding of low-voltage systems and installation requirements Familiarity with tools like Milestone, Genetec, Blue Iris, or similar VMS platforms Basic scripting or automation skills to support layout configuration or documentation (e.g., Python, bash) Requirements 2–5 years of experience in camera layout, surveillance systems design, or a related field Proficient in tools like Lucidchart, Visio, or similar CAD for layout/diagramming Working knowledge of IP cameras, NVRs, and basic networking concepts (IP addressing, subnets, VPN tunnels) Comfortable communicating with field technicians and installers; able to create installer-friendly documents Strong written and verbal communication skills; customer-facing experience preferred Familiarity with camera FOV, resolution, lensing, mounting considerations, and installation trade-offs Experience with AI/computer vision systems or smart surveillance solutions Benefits Chooch offers extensive benefits including health, dental, vision insurance, 401K with 3% match, extensive PTO, and life insurance policies included.
