Position Summary This position will work closely with attorneys to prepare for trials, hearings and arbitrations, and manage all aspects of case files. The Litigation Paralegal is responsible for drafting and finalizing legal documents, pleadings and correspondence, assisting in all phases of discovery, and communicating with clients, experts, witnesses, and other relevant parties. This position calls for exceptional judgment, organization, high quality of communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Job Duties and Responsibilities 1. Support in areas of commercial, business, employment, construction, land use, and personal injury litigation. 2. Conduct initial investigation and witness interviews, and prepare reports of findings. 3. Assist with discovery obligations, including drafting discovery responses and reviewing and preparing documents for production. 4. Assist with document collection from non-parties or public bodies through authorizations, subpoenas, public records requests, or online searches. 5. Analyze discovery and prepare summaries for attorneys, including medical chronologies and bill summaries. 6. Research case law, statutes, and administrative rules. 7. Research federal, state, and local licensing and permitting requirements and assist in compliance with same. 8. Manage calendars, including docketing litigation and reporting deadlines. 9. Organize, file, and mange legal documents. 10.Correspond with clients, experts, vendors, and outside counsel. 11.Prepare spreadsheets and presentations under supervision of attorneys. 12.Format, proof, and finalize legal documents, pleadings and correspondence. Skills and Abilities To perform the essential functions of this position, an individual must demonstrate the following competencies: • Possess excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities. Effectively prioritize tasks and manage time. • Possess ability to effectively work independently and as part of a team. • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. • Ability to critically analyze and problem solve legal and technological issues. Minimum Qualifications • Three or more years of full-time paralegal experience for a company, court, or law office. • Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation system sufficient to preform basic legal research. • Thorough knowledge of legal research tools. • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. • Familiarity with computer systems such as document management systems, billing software, and litigation review databases. • Ability to consistently deliver high quality of work under pressure. • Demonstrated ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal, including discovery, pleadings, and correspondence. Preferred Qualifications • Certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association. • National or local paralegal certification (RP, CRP, OCP). PWDF Seeks Managing Attorney to Convert to Legal Director. PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES FOUNDATION (PWDF) is a small nonprofit agency located in San Francisco that focuses on equal access for individuals with mental and/or developmental disabilities.
