Job Summary We are looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Junior Mechanic to assist in maintaining and repairing a fleet of 15+ delivery vehicles, including FedEx-style vans and trucks. This role is essential to ensuring the fleet operates efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and supporting on-time delivery operations. Under the guidance of senior mechanics and the Fleet Manager, the Junior Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and assist with inspections in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities 1. Fleet Maintenance and Repair: • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil and filter changes, tire replacements, and brake services, for a large fleet. • Assist senior mechanics in diagnosing and resolving mechanical and electrical issues. • Conduct minor repairs, such as replacing batteries, lights, and wiper blades, to maintain fleet readiness. 2. Preventative Maintenance Scheduling: • Help track and prioritize maintenance schedules for the fleet to prevent breakdowns. • Ensure vehicles meet mileage and time-based service requirements consistently. 3. Inspection and Compliance: • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to identify wear and tear or potential issues. • Assist in preparing vehicles for state inspections, emissions tests, and safety audits. 4. Parts and Inventory Management: • Support the maintenance of parts inventory, including restocking and organizing. • Record parts usage and ensure the availability of essential components for the fleet. 5. Shop and Tool Maintenance: • Keep the workshop clean, organized, and safe for operations. • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition, reporting damage or wear promptly. 6. Documentation and Reporting: • Accurately document repairs, maintenance activities, and inspections in the fleet management system. • Report recurring issues or major concerns to the Lead Mechanic or Fleet Manager for action. 7. Team Collaboration and Development: • Work closely with senior mechanics and other team members to improve overall fleet efficiency. • Participate in training sessions to advance technical skills and stay updated on new vehicle technologies. Required: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Basic knowledge of vehicle systems, including engines, brakes, and electrical components. • Familiarity with hand and power tools used in automotive repair. • Strong organizational skills for managing tasks in a high-volume environment. • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required). Preferred: • Vocational or technical training in automotive repair. • Experience working with fleets or in a similar maintenance role. • Knowledge of fleet management software is a plus.
