$1,140 / 3br - Cool artsy building in the mission(Old Sears Buid) (mission district)

address2919 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA

Description

We have a room available November 1st, for $1140.40 a month. Our building is located at the cross streets of Cesar Chavez and Valencia. It is sometimes referred to as the Old Sears Building, as it was once upon time, a Sears department store. Although you don't have to be an artist to live here, and many who live here aren't, there is a long tradition of artists living in the building. This gives the building a certain atmosphere, which we really enjoy, and although it might not be for everyone, it really is perfect for someone wanting to live in a unique space, that is not your run-of-the-mill, San Francisco, apartment. As far as our apartment is concerned, we have three bedrooms, a very large living room, a small part of which serves as an extension to a small kitchen. There is also a small bathroom. Although the kitchen and bathroom are on the small side, they have all the amenities you could need. There is also a studio in the back that currently serves as one housemate's painting studio and the other's workspace/tool storage area. The ceilings are roughly 15 feet high. Overall, it is a pretty large space. The room that is available is definitely on the large side, especially given the cost. It must be said that the room has little to no natural light. If this is an issue, then it might not be right for you. Otherwise, it is a great room, with ample space to stretch out in. Another really great addition to living here, is the building itself. we have a laundry room with six washers and six dryers, as well as an additional bathroom and vending machines. There is a freight elevator which goes to the trash/recycling room and front entrance driveway . So it is perfect for moving stuff in and out, and also very convenient for taking out the trash/recycling. We have a locker system for receiving packages, which will alert you via text when your package has arrived. There is also a gated parking lot, in which you can rent a space if you have a vehicle. Last, but maybe best, is the fact that our building has amazing roof top access, with plenty of tables and chairs to sit at. There is also a great view of Bernal Hill, and the rooftop itself, has been beautified, l with a variety of plant life. It really is an amazing refuge within the city, and also a great way to get your vitamin D, especially if you're room has little natural light. I suppose you should know a little about us. N is a handy-man(which really does come in handy sometimes), and he has clients all over the city. Because of this he is often out during the day. He is a lover of music, and seeing live music. He also likes bikes and biking and likes to go fishing and camping when he has a chance. He is an ardent fan of basketball, . He is pretty social but tends to socialize outside of the house. He is very easy going and easy to get along with. Greg is an oil painter, works at an art supply store and is a sometimes substitute art teacher. He is home more frequently than N as he is often in the studio working on paintings. While not as socially active as N, he does enjoy going with friends to concerts, museums, and/or films. But like N, he tends to not have a lot of houseguests. Besides that he is a big lover of books, films, visual art and music, and is trying to be a more regular practitioner of yoga. while being friendly and ummm, gregarious and always making an effort to be more so, Greg definitely appreciates his Me-time. We are both capable of paying rent and bills on time. We are 420 friendly, although Greg partakes more than N. N is more likely to go for a drink. Still neither of us defines ourselves by these things. Neither of us uses, the harder stuff, as they say, so we like to keep those things out of the environment. Basically, neither of us are partiers, we just respectfully do our own thing, in a way that is not harmful to ourselves or others. There is no cigarette smoking in the house. Although it might not make any difference to you, and neither of us is traditional by any means, both N and Greg are middle aged. As far as what we are looking for in a housemate, well... Starting with the bare minimum, you should be confident that you can pay your share of rent and bills into the foreseeable future. We basically consider our home, our sanctuary, away from the buzz of the city and even from our outside social lives. While personalities can and will vary, we are at least looking for someone who is respectful of the type of space we have and is interested in peaceful co-existence. This includes not having frequent houseguests. It is of course understandable that you'll want to have people over once in a while, and it is fun to show friends a space that is as unique as ours. That said, it shouldn't be frequent. Frequent guests can make it seem like there are extra housemates, and start to infringe on the privacy of other housemates. Also the fact that neither N nor Greg has frequent houseguests, makes it only fair that our newest housemate is also in line with this. We are also more generally, just looking for someone who is easy going and easy to get along with. Both of us, N and Greg enjoy the conversations we have while sharing the common areas of our space, and also enjoy watching a show together, etc. etc. But we also are able to retreat to our rooms when we need our space, without worry of offending the other. Ideally, we would like to find someone who also likes friendly conversation, but has a good sense of and respect for when others need their space. Another important trait we are looking for is the ability to communicate directly when problems arise, without attacking or feeling attacked. Part of living in a peaceful and safe space is the ability to not ruffle feathers when you have criticisms of others and to not get overly defensive when others have criticisms of you. But outside of just having any problems, someone who can communicate clearly, calmly, and directly, in all areas is essential. For instance, if you wanted to change something in the common areas, that is completely acceptable, but it should always be discussed with the other housemates first. So although these qualities are somewhat general and do not describe a person in terms of their interests and such, these are the qualities that are most important to us in a prospective housemate. Additionally, we have a cat as part of our household, a very important part, as far as Greg is concerned anyway. So firstly, we don't have room for any other pets. Secondly, it is important that you like cats or don't mind living with one, and it is a plus if you love cats. You will never be asked to do anything for the cat. Greg is responsible for taking care of him, feeding him, cleaning his litter box, etc. But it is of the utmost importance that you help in maintaining a safe environment for the cat, not leaving food out, not putting anything toxic where he can get into it, including most plants and flowers, being aware when opening the door, and just generally being aware that their is a cat in your environment, and of what to do to keep him safe. If you don't know, you can always ask. Think of it as living with a very independent small child that doesn't cry or whine nearly as much, but is just as cute. Mostly though, he spends a lot of time in Greg's room. Where Greg is, he is, usually. His name is Niblet. Well that should do it, although you probably want to know what your expenses would be. Fair enough. Your rent would be $1140.40 a month. To move in you would need first month's rent, last month's rent, and a $200 security deposit. So that makes a total of $1140.40 + $1140.40 + $200, for a total of $2480.80 to move in. As far as bills are concerned, we pay for PG&E, and internet. They both average $25-$30 a month, so $50-$60 a month total. I believe the internet might be a little less than PG&E. And then there is the aforementioned parking, which we can find out more about the cost of, if you are interested in that. So, in a nutshell, it is a really great, unique space for the right person. We also live in a great part of the Mission, with tons of things to do, restaurants, bars, bookstores, record stores, music venues, parks, etc. etc. We are conveniently located near 24th and Mission BART and lots of other transportation. While I realize this is probably one of the longest apartment listings ever, it is important for us to not mislead people, and to try to give them a good idea of what we are looking for in a housemate. It is also important that you are honest to yourself and us about whether or not you'd be a good fit, based on the criteria we mentioned, no matter how badly you need a place to live. If you're not a good fit in the way we specified then it will become quickly apparent. So really it is best for everyone, in the long run, if we can be as transparent as possible. So if our place seems good to you, reply to this post and tell us a little (or a lot) about yourself, and give us a way to contact you. We will be going over replies and setting up interviews in the next couple of weeks, or until we find the right person. So if you think you'd be a good fit, then don't delay! We look forward to hearing from you, Nam and Greg
