Job Title: Experienced Estimator – Commercial Painting Location: San Jose, CA Job Type: Full-Time Salary: Competitive, Based on Experience + Performance Bonuses Company: Nordic Painting Inc. As we continue to grow, we’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team and play a key role in our pre-construction and bidding operations. Position Overview: We’re looking for an experienced Estimator who can hit the ground running and take ownership of the bidding process. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of commercial painting scopes, excellent blueprint reading skills, and the ability to prepare accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates. Responsibilities: • Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial painting projects (new construction, renovations, and repaints) • Perform quantity takeoffs using digital software • Analyze drawings, specs, and bid documents to determine complete scope of work • Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor/vendor pricing • Develop and maintain strong relationships with general contractors, vendors, and suppliers • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walks • Work closely with project managers during project handoff to ensure seamless execution Qualifications: • 5+ years of estimating experience in the commercial painting or coatings industry • Strong understanding of surface preparation, application methods, and industry standards • Proficiency in reading blueprints and construction documents • Skilled in estimating software and Microsoft Excel • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously • Effective written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy What We Offer: • Competitive base salary plus performance-based bonuses • Comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, vision • 401(k) • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement (if required for site visits) • Ongoing professional development and advancement opportunities • A supportive and experienced team environment How to Apply: To apply, please send your resume, in PDF format, and a brief cover letter highlighting relevant experience with “Estimator” in the subject line. DOCUMENTATION - How well do you document the progress and effort on a project related to the costs and expenses incurred so the project budget can be accurately and properly monitored and cost risks managed? LABOR MANAGEMENT - Utilize your knowledge and skills to effectively manage and communicate to labor on the project to complete tasks in sequence, on time, and within budget. Help facilitate the success of our labor pool through SCHEDULING: How well do you control and manage the resources (both self-performed and project contractors) to meet and exceed schedule expectations. This is done through effective documentation, planning, and communication. SUBCONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT - Use your relationships, knowledge, and (as needed) contractual knowledge, to assure all contractors and suppliers are meeting the schedule, quality, and safety requirements to complete the project. This includes knowledge of their scope of work and continuous assessments of their progress and performance. PLANNING & FORESIGHT - How well can you avoid bottlenecks of manpower, coordination, material, or equipment. Use look ahead schedules and thorough documentation to assure you are prepared ahead of time as each task arises. OWNER RELATIONSHIPS - How well do you communicate progress, expectations, and needs to the owner to assure they are in the loop and also feel engaged in the project to maintain their comfort. We rely heavily on repeat clients to maintain our work and you are the frontline for making sure the experience they have on our projects is a good one. Communication and follow through are key.
