The Swine Animal Caretaker performs various daily activities relating to the farrowing and breeding of swine and their health and welfare. Duties including, but not limited to, monitoring house/room environment, caring and feeding of animals, farm sanitation, animal health and well-being, safety and housekeeping, animal movement, animal science and husbandry, and animal tracking data and all associated paperwork. Location of Openings Includes: Clarkton, NC White Oak, NC Tarheel, NC Bladenboro, NC Requirements Must have good communication skills Adaptable to change Ability to do physical labor Ability to follow instructions Essential Duties and Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in all operations and care/feeding of the animals Ensure the welfare/well being of the animals Insure proper feed and supplies are on hand and follows standards for feeding and watering animals Identify problem areas and correct them immediately or report them to supervisor Ensure that all standards and procedures are known, understood and adhered to, as trained; including all safety procedures Develop and/or maintain proper record keeping tools for the animals Complete regular reports in a timely manner and ensure any variances are corrected Maintain all equipment and the correct environment in all barns at all times Pressure wash Identify all inconsistencies and immediately rectify or report to supervisor Promote teamwork and be an active participant of the farm’s team Perform other duties as defined by manager Special Job Requirements Must be able to work evenings and weekends when necessary ADA Requirements Ability to walk, stoop, bend, climb, repetitive motions, see and distinguish colors, hear, and lift up to 50lbs Benefits In addition to very competitive pay employees of Prestage Farms receive: Sick Pay Vacation Pay Holiday Pay 401(k) Plan Medical Insurance Voluntary Insurance options such as Dental, Vision, Etc. Complete medical procedures and assist veterinarians in surgical procedures following established protocols. Evaluate incoming animals for possible placement, including physical exams and behavior evaluations. Process fostered animal returns and release. Humanely euthanize animals which are not a candidate for adoption or upon request of owner. Customer Service: Greet customers as they arrive for scheduled appointments. Ensure appointments are completed in a timely manner. Collect appropriate fees from customers. Schedule walk-in customers for stray animals or emergency appointments. Communication and Culture: Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers. Manage and view work schedule in Makeshift. Clock in and out of shifts using ADP. Monitor AHS email and other messaging software. Other duties as assigned. Additional Information: Schedule and Attendance: Required to be on time to scheduled shifts during operational hours which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Attend and participate in regular team meetings and one-on-one meetings with direct leader. May be required to work at a different site based on department needs. May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events. Work Environment: Environment can be dirty, wet, warm, and humid. Exposure to zoonotic diseases and pests such as fleas and ticks. Possibility of being bitten or scratched. Exposure to unpleasant odors, chemicals, and noises, including barking. Requirements What we're looking for: Experience: Experience as a Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician certification or related schooling required. Skills: Strong customer service and communication skills. Strong attention to detail, multi-tasking and time-management skills. Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products. Physical Demands: Must be able to lift, carry, and handle animals and other items up to 50 lbs. unassisted.  For animals and other items over 50 lbs., assistance from another team member is required.  Prolonged periods of standing and walking. Emotional Demands: Ability to be emotionally resilient while working in a shelter setting.
