Description

About us: We are a locally owned and operated small business that has been a part of the Bellingham community since 2006. We are makers of high-quality organic teas, matcha, and drinking chocolates – all curated with care from start to finish in our Bellingham shop using the freshest, most sustainable and delicious ingredients available. Our shop consists of of 5-8 people (depending on the time of year) who all have a “main focus” and are also cross-trained on most aspects of the shop. Being a smaller group, we rely on and value direct communication and strong work ethic in our day-to-day functioning. We all have a clear understanding that each one of our roles in the shop directly impacts the next and all aim to be supportive of each other as best we can. The position: “Blender” Hours – Full time (Mon-Thu 9-5pm, Fri (Fall & Winter) 9-1pm) Main focus – The blender is responsible for blending and overseeing the “ingredients inventory” for our teas, matcha, and drinking chocolates. While other positions in the kitchen are cross trained on blending matcha and cacao, tea-specific blending is kept to this sole position in an effort to minimize mistakes and/or miscommunications. These blends are determined in conjunction with the owner and are then used to fill our shelves. Other shared responsibilities – • Making of “finished product” in kitchen and shop floor • Restocking kitchen and shelves • Receiving goods • Labeling “finished product” • Weekly shop cleaning • Possible data entry Important things to note – • You must be comfortable standing multiple hours at a time, work with your hands, and lifting 50lb boxes/bags • Please be aware that as a manufacturing facility, there will be loud noises from blenders, air filters, vacuums, etc. • We work with many plants and spices! Please consider this when reflecting on any allergies you may have Who we’re looking for: • Someone who is looking to settle into a 2yr min commitment • A self-policer and self-motivator – there is always something to be done here and we see and value those who take pride in their own performance • Has an eye for detail and values maintaining an organized environment • Because you will work with ever-changing ingredients and fluctuating blend weights that shift with the changing seasons, you must also be adaptable to succeed here • You will need to be comfortable asking questions and maintaining constant communication with management – again, we’re a small team so we trust that each of us will speak up if there’s something to be said/asked • Someone who has and can maintain a positive, “can-do” mindset – this position is often a solo one when blending and in the busy season, you’re blending almost daily. We want someone who is comfortable working solo as well as in a group setting Benefits: • Flexible Scheduling – We’re happy to work with you to accommodate other responsibilities and engagements. • Healthcare – 50/50 (employer/employee) split cost for medical benefits for all full-time employees. • Holidays & Closures – 7 days paid holidays + 5 days off for observed holidays (non-paid). This includes Thanksgiving through the weekend as well as the week of Christmas through New Year’s (some days in between we may be open if hours are available & wanted). • PTO – Higher rate of accumulation than state requirement. • Personal Tea & Cacao – As an extra bonus, we are happy to supply your personal tea habit :) We aim to build a safe and inclusive space for all in our community regardless of age, sexual orientation, background, etc. and encourage all to apply. We support a good work life balance here and find that those who thrive here seek and appreciate a healthy work environment. If you feel like you would make a good fit, email us your • resume + cover letter • In your letter, we’d love to hear why you feel like you’d make a good fit here at Flying Bird Botanicals!
