Are you a competitive or avid recreational athlete looking for a new challenge? Or a cancer survivor looking for an activity that will provide positive physical and emotional support? Or perhaps you're seeking a great, family-friendly activity that fosters competition at all ages/ability levels? The Phantoms would love to introduce you to the exciting sport of Dragon Boat Racing! We are a dragon boat race team, affiliated with the Dragonboat Racing Association of Colorado (DRACO), an IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to promote the sport and culture of dragon boat racing locally, and to train competitive dragon boat paddlers / teams to compete in local, national and international races. We also have a program specifically designed to promote the health of, and provide positive emotional support for, cancer survivors. Dragon boat races are held all over the globe, in a wide variety of exotic venues. Our crew competes regularly in Arizona, California, and other venues. Denver also has its own local event we race in, held each year. Our team captain and head coach was a member of the Team USA Senior C Open crew that won four gold medals at the 2019 IDBF Dragon Boat World Championships in Thailand. Start paddling now, and you could be racing w/ us soon! At present, we conduct training sessions at two venues. During the boating season (May through October+), regular "on-the-water" outdoor practices are held on a private lake (generally Saturday mornings and Monday/Wednesday evenings). Off season / early season indoor sessions are held in the swimming pool at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center every Saturday morning and Wednesday evening, using a training platform designed to simulate dragon boat paddling in a swimming pool. We also have the benefit of four professionally-trained dragon boat coaches (our team captain is a Dragon Boat Canada Level II - Competitive Team certified coach) to assist in our training sessions.
