The Estimator I is responsible for preparing and completing bid documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects. By collecting and analyzing information, evaluating bid specifications and drawings, and ensuring that the team comprehends the requirements for successful bidding and project acquisition, the Estimator controls construction costs. WHAT YOU'LL DO: · Review the proposal specifications and drawings to ascertain the scope of work and the necessary contents of the estimate. · Prepare estimates by calculating the complete takeoff of the scope of work and entering it into the computer estimating system. Review the computer printout for accuracy and completeness. · Request quotes from suppliers for equipment and materials. · Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes. Review the quotes for completeness in conjunction with the plans and specifications. · Itemize and quantify all incidentals required in preparing the bid packages, including subcontract work, equipment rental, tools, and supplies. · Prior to the issuance of the formal bid package, provide the Chief Estimator with a comprehensive review of the scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package. · Upon the successful bid at project turnover, meet with Project Management to provide a thorough explanation of the estimate, scope of work, quotes, and offer aspects for the successful transition of the project. · Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents.Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates. · Maintain files of working documents as backups for estimate figures. · The duties and responsibilities outlined herein provide a general description of the nature and scope of work performed by this position. · This is not an exhaustive list, and additional duties may be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE: Advanced knowledge of the assigned discipline, construction technology, estimating techniques, and cost control. Interpret computerized cost data and systems. Perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating. Read and interpret blueprints and/or engineering design drawings. Identify and meet customers’ needs, expectations, and requirements. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of specific variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.). Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and change priorities as necessary. Work under pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude. Oral and written communication skills as required for the position. Self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player. Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others. EXPERIENCE WERE LOOKING FOR: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field Minimum of two years of experience estimating commercial construction projects, preferably in electrical construction Experience with Accubid estimating software is preferred Experience with CAD or 3D software is preferred Education, training, and relevant experience can be combined.
