WCC is recruiting members in Bellingham and statewide! With over 250 field crew and Individual Placement (IP) positions, we offer a wide range of meaningful opportunities in the environmental field. Serving with WCC means spending your days outdoors, in all weather conditions, accomplishing projects that restore and enhance landscapes across Washington. Crew members serve on a crew of five members, along with an experienced crew supervisor who provides training, mentorship, and development opportunities. IP members serve directly with natural resource professionals, gaining real-world experience and growing their network in the environmental field. WCC supports a variety of crew types (restoration crews, trail crews, and spike crews) and IP positions. • Restoration crews focus on habitat restoration and enhancement projects such as planting trees and shrubs, removing invasive species, and monitoring and maintaining restoration sites. • Trail crews focus on recreation enhancements such as building and maintaining trails, public camping infrastructure, bridges, boardwalks and more. • Spike crews travel around the state of Washington to complete both restoration and recreation focused projects. Food and lodging are provided while in travel status. Time on spike projects will vary by crew and may between 25-75% of the service term. • IPs may engage in environmental research, community outreach and engagement, environmental education, and ecological monitoring. WCC partners with over 100 organizations across Washington State including federal, Tribal, state, and local governments and non-profits. Members have opportunities to network with leaders in ecological restoration and recreation access efforts statewide and regionally. WCC prioritizes physical and emotional safety and provides training for all field activities. Member Benefits • Twice monthly living stipend of $1,455 ($2,910* per month, before taxes) *Members with positions based in King, Snohomish, and Clark counties are eligible for a location-based elevated living allowance. • Health insurance coverage through Premera. WCC pays the monthly insurance premium. Members are eligible for WCC-offered insurance on their first day of service. • Access to mental health services through a Member Assistance Program (MAP). • Basic food benefits may be available through the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). • Paid professional training in addition to day-to-day hands-on training in the field. Two week-long training conferences require overnight travel. • Opportunities to join multiple affinity groups where people can voluntarily join a group based on shared characteristics, identities, or life experience. • Attendance policy supports limited personal time off without a reduction in stipend. • G.E.D. exam fee reimbursement. Housing: WCC is not able to provide housing or relocation assistance. Positions in your area: WCC is recruiting over 250 positions across Washington State, including 15 positions in Bellingham: CREW-Bellingham/City of Bellingham: 5 restoration crew positions CREW-Bellingham/Whatcom County Flood District and NSEA: 5 restoration crew positions CREW-Bellingham/Whatcom County Multi-Partner: 5 spike crew positions Eligibility and Terms of Service Age range: Must be 18-25 years old, with exceptions for those with military service or with mental or sensory disabilities. Strong preference is given community members living in Washington State. Typical schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday - Thursday, 7 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. When traveling for spike projects schedule could alternately be Thursday - Thursday (10-hour days) with six days off prior.
