Handyman (Brooklyn)

Job Title: Handyman Organization: Carroll Gardens Association (CGA) Location: Red Hook / Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, NY Compensation: Starting at $21/hour (based on experience) About Us Carroll Gardens Association is a nonprofit affordable housing provider that owns and manages 150 apartments across Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. We are committed to providing safe, well-maintained, and affordable homes for our community. Position Overview The Handyman will perform general maintenance, repairs, and basic building upkeep across our housing portfolio. This role is essential to ensuring that our apartments and common areas remain safe, functional, and welcoming for residents. Responsibilities Perform routine repairs in apartments and common areas (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, painting, etc.) Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders Submit a daily summary of progress and completed tasks, accompanied by timestamped photos and/or videos for documentation Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections of buildings and equipment Assist with apartment turnovers, including painting, patching, and minor renovations Monitor building systems and report issues to property management Support contractors and vendors as needed for larger repair projects Maintain tools, supplies, and work areas in safe condition Qualifications At least 2 years of handyman, maintenance, or building repair experience (residential preferred) Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs Ability to troubleshoot and complete small to medium repairs independently Strong communication skills and a customer-service mindset when working with tenants Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor as needed Schedule & Compensation Full-time position (40 hours per week) Hourly rate starting at $21/hour, commensurate with experience Benefits package available after probationary period
