Physical Work Environment: *Frequent handling of heavy, bulky items, including bathtubs, sinks, and doors, often covered in dust or dirt. *Work in varying weather conditions in an open air environment akin to working outdoors. *Colder in the winter and warmer temperatures in summer, due to the concrete floors and steel beams. *Low potential for exposure to lead, asbestos, and other hazardous materials. *The ideal candidate will be adaptable, physically resilient, and able to maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude in challenging conditions. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Store Operations: ○ Ensure the store is clean, organized, and safe for both staff and customers. ○ Safely unload donated materials from vehicles. ○ Move materials to permanent homes within the store using equipment such as hand trucks, furniture dollies, carts and pallet jacks. ○ Accurately price and stock materials in all store areas (lumberyard, appliances, doors, cabinets, etc.) ○ Assist with merchandising and ensuring the store is well-stocked. 2. Customer Service: ○ Provide excellent service by phone and in-person to volunteers, donors, customers, and other visitors. ○ Maintain a safe, welcoming, and accessible space for all. ○ Offer information, inspiration, and alternative solutions to customer needs. 3. Teamwork: ○ Arrive on time, enthusiastic, and ready to work. ○ Foster positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and customers. ○ Maintain clear and respectful communication with those around you. 4. Safety: ○ Conduct daily store walk-throughs to ensure safety protocols are followed. ○ Follow all safety rules and regulations, ensuring both staff and the public remain safe during material loading/unloading and forklift operations. ○ Help identify and address any hazards to maintain a safe working environment. The Medical Assistant will perform administrative front office and clinical back office duties in the medical clinic, including submitting and tracking referrals, taking vital signs, preparing examining rooms, administering medications as ordered by a licensed healthcare provider, performing phlebotomy and other technical clinical functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or has a logical assignment to this position. • Greets and register patients when needed; assists them with completion of necessary forms; answers telephones and schedules appointments; retrieves medical files; maintains medical records and files. • Provide pre/post test client-centered HIV counseling. • Provide HIV/STD risk reduction and prevention coaching/counseling. • Prepares treatment rooms, ensuring that rooms are neat and clean, and stocked with the necessary supplies and equipment for patient examination; maintains sanitary and sterile supplies and equipment. • Interviews patients to obtain basic medical information and history; measures and records vital signs, height, weight and body mass index (BMI); prepares medical records for provider review. • Performs phlebotomy to collect blood samples; collects urine and other non-invasive specimens; logs specimens for testing; performs urine dip sticks and finger-sticks for hemoglobin and glucose measurements. • Provides counseling and rapid HIV testing to clients seeking those services. • Maintains monthly equipment logs, i.e. Glucometer, Hemocue, and Refrigerators. • Assists physicians and nurses in examining and treating patients; handling instruments; preparing and disinfecting treatment sites; applying and removing dressing and bandages; administers medications in accordance with providers orders; administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as ordered by mid-level providers and physicians. • Assist in the preparation of reports as requested. • Carries out patient discharge processes; clarifies and provides patients with follow-up care instructions and referrals. • Follows steps outlined in APLA Health & Wellness referral tracking policy to ensure that patients get the referrals needed and that referrals are appropriately logged and tracked. • Administers Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in a medical emergency. OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS. REQUIREMENTS: Training and Experience: High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Successful completion of a Medical Assistant training program in a recognized institution in accordance with standards established by the Medical Board of California. Knowledge of: 1. Interview patients effectively for the purpose of acquiring medical, social and sexual histories. 2. Risk reduction counseling to curtail the spread of HIV and other STDs. 3. The Prevention Training Specialist will work to reduce health disparities, improve access to care, and foster a culturally competent, supportive environment for Black MSM, promoting positive health outcomes within the community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • HIV Testing and Counseling: Provide virtual HIV testing and counseling using the OraQuick at-home HIV test kit and on-site HIV testing via the Insti Rapid HIV test. Ensure proper protocols are followed and accurate documentation is maintained. • Navigation and Linkage to Care: Support newly diagnosed individuals by connecting them to medical care, treatment, and support services.
