The National Arts Club (NAC), a nonprofit 501(c)(3), seeks a friendly and organized Guest Service Attendant/Receptionist to staff the Club’s Front Desk. Dedicated to promoting public interest in the arts, the NAC offers exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, and other cultural programming in its historic clubhouse. As the first and last point of contact for members and guests, this role is essential in creating a welcoming and professional experience. Duties include greeting visitors, providing information, checking in hotel guests, interacting with residents, making reservations, and supporting lobby and coat check operations. The ideal candidate is energetic, professional, personable, and able to multitask independently in a fast-paced environment—helping to reflect and enhance the Club’s reputation and community spirit. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED Minimum of one (2) year of related experience preferably in the hospitality industry, preferably a front- of-house, guest-facing position. SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES, & EXPECTATIONS Proficient written/oral interpersonal skills. Ability to read, write, and speak English to comprehend and communicate job functions. Proficient computer use. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & TASKS: Create a friendly & welcoming atmosphere by engaging in appropriate interaction with staff, membership, clients, and guests. Makes effort to know members by name and greet them. Assist members with making restaurant & hotel reservations at the Club. Assist people checking into overnight rooms, processing those check-ins properly in our computer system. Accepts mail and packages, properly distributing to internal mailboxes. Maintain a clean, organized, and tidy front desk area. Handle minor complaints/requests promptly and report them to the manager immediately if needed. Accepts guests’ items such as coats, hats, bags, umbrellas, and other personal articles of clothing and items and stores them in an organized fashion per the Club’s SOPs. Assist in Check Room as needed. Completes tasks, including guest requests, promptly and with urgency. Proactively ask guests if they need anything. Follows up once a request has been made. Collects and reports lost or left-over items in assigned area. Aid other guest service attendants in other Clubhouse areas. SUPPORTIVE JOB FUNCTIONS: In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the requirements of The Club. Responsive to constructive criticism by the manager Sets the example by adhering to rules and regulations set by management while on duty. Helpful and courteous to junior members of staff when pointing out mistakes; take on role of mentor and assist/train service staff on required mis-en-place, technical, and emergency skills as needed. Maintains good relationships with colleagues and contributes to positive team spirit. Other departmental tasks as assigned by manager. Liaise with the management on all service-related problems you are aware of Has environmental awareness to reduce waste when possible. Report broken equipment or unusual activity as needed. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move or push up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. IMPORTANT NOTES: Due to the cyclical nature of the Club (and Hospitality) industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Club. This may include weekdays, weekends, late nights, and/or early mornings. All employees are required to fully comply with the Club’s Employee Handbook and any future updates (furnished upon employment acceptance). Furthermore, all employees must comply with Club rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of Club facilities.
