Here we have a gorgeous and well preserved hand carved Mahogany settee in the style of Chippendale with clean upholstery and ball and claw style feet. Im pretty confident it was crated in the early 1900s. I have recently done some work on it when the glue for the arm rests didn't hold up, which revealed the use of square pegs. Victorian revival reproductions in the early 1900s during the arts and crafts movements mimicked earlier methods employing square pegs when copying older work. I chose to update the dowels to round ones after seeing the slack between the peg size and down hole, and the repair offers upgraded strength with professional fit and finish. There are light signs of wear and use which is to be expected given its age but nothing indicating abuse or neglect. While it's condition is not museum grade it has held up considerably well and has been structurally fortified to last another hundred years. I did not alter or mend the finish.
