Product Designer (Remote - California)
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Descript. We are currently looking for a Product Designer in California (USA).
As a Product Designer, you will be at the forefront of shaping innovative and engaging user experiences for next-generation video and audio editing tools. You will lead the end-to-end design of new features and the evolution of existing ones, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and research. This role requires strong systems thinking, creativity, and the ability to balance novelty with usability. You will contribute to a design system, solve complex design problems, and help define the future of creative tools in a fast-moving, dynamic environment.
Accountabilities
· Drive design decisions as a core member of a feature team, collaborating with stakeholders and fellow designers.
· Own the design process from concept through execution, delivering high-quality, user-centered solutions.
· Apply structured thinking to ambiguous problems, integrating user, business, and technical constraints.
· Contribute to the growth and refinement of the design system.
· Advocate for design excellence and maintain a strong user-centered focus while balancing practical considerations.
· Collaborate deeply with cross-functional teams, including product management, engineers, designers, and executives.
· Provide constructive feedback during design critiques and actively participate in the design community.
Requirements
· 4+ years of product design experience, with a strong portfolio showcasing both new feature creation and systems thinking.
· Exceptional interaction and visual design skills, balancing delight and usability.
· Experience designing for web, mobile, or desktop applications with complex workflows and system challenges.
· Understanding of AI/ML concepts and prior design experience for AI-enabled features.
· Comfortable working in a fast-growing, ambiguous environment and creating clarity through design.
· Strong communication skills, self-direction, and ownership of deliverables.
· At least two of the following stand-out skills:
o Experience building or working on creation tools (audio, video, or design tools).
o Expertise in accessibility.
o Experience building or maintaining a mature design system.
o Designer-led user research experience.
o UI animation skills or prototyping (including Vibe coding).
