Optimal Surveying & Mapping, Inc. (OSM), fka O'Neal Surveying & Mapping, Inc. currently has an opening for Survey Crew Chief for their Tallahassee office. This position requires a minimum of 3-4 years as Crew Chief. OSM offers competitive pay, and benefits. These include 100% company paid Health, Dental and Vision Insurance. Coverage begins after a probationary period of 60 days of full-time employment. In addition, this position will include 80 hours paid PTO and 7 paid holidays per year. Full-Time employees receive bonuses at least once a year. OSM strives to work a 4-day work week, 10-hour workdays, whenever possible. Weather or scheduling will occasionally require working 5 days or more, but this is the exception. Our work week is primarily Monday through Thursday. This Position Requires: • Perform design survey in support of engineering projects. Experience should include but is not limited to: establish horizontal and vertical control, LiDAR, as-built surveys, construction stakeout, boundary surveys, topographic, Mean High Water, tree, hydrographic, wetland surveys and transportation/route surveys. • Ability to use both Conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods. • Instruct your crew in proper methods of use and maintenance of survey equipment. • Ability to operate equipment accurately/efficiently to acquire necessary data. Trimble Access is a PLUS. • Provide complete and accurate field notes. • FDOT experience is highly desired. • Ability to work well with others. Additionally: • Ability to pass FAA background check/fingerprinting. • CST Certification a plus. • A High School diploma or GED is required for this position. • Valid Florida driver's license with approved/acceptable driving history required for this position. • Required to travel overnight 3 or more nights a week, when needed. • Overtime will be required on occasion, to meet schedules. • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry equipment. • Ability to access remote locations in wildlife management areas • Good leadership and communication skills. • Ability to follow directions from Supervisors and provide positive feedback. We are currently hiring for- • Site Supervisor- This role will typically be stationed at a single project and manage all of the day-to-day comms, manage site safety, sub-contractor scheduling, drawing interpretation and coordination, and material sequencing. • Carpenter- We are looking for Carpenters with at least 3 years experience who can move between site projects working with hand tools, and shop projects working with stationary tools. Sometimes this role will be working with a lead and other times it will be working independently. Some work will be fast and crude and some will be very detail oriented and precise. Being flexible will be important. This role has lots of room to grow into a lead carpenter role. • Fabricator- This role will work directly with our shop Manager to plan projects and execute their construction in shop. Experience working in metal and wood preferred, but open to candidates with high proficiency in just one of those fields. This role will often involve creating components in shop and then traveling to site for install. Required skills include the ability to read and create drawings, create and manage project schedules with shop manager, and source materials. JOB SUMMARY: This position will handle procurement, bidding proposals and submissions, and having constant contract with project owners and prospective subcontractors. Construction estimator is the liaison to the project owner and the primary point of contact for the owner’s consultants during the early phases of the project. Estimators needs are organized, technically proficient in quantity takeoffs, able to think creatively, and love to communicate. A day’s work passes by very quickly as they establish the critical path and scrutinize the small details of a planned project. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Responsible for the management of all plan and specifications, estimating activities in a way that maximizes the total profitability of the entire company. • Manage the pricing validation process for negotiated work and pricing of change proposals. • Attend buyout meetings, provide status on negotiations with potential subcontractors and updates on subcontracts. • Develop methods to supply data and information to other departments to maximize effectiveness. • Effective bid leveling by reviewing subcontractor/vendor selection as well as scopes with Area Managers and others, as needed to ensure scope coverage for estimates. • Assist in the negotiation of contracts and change proposals. • Consulting with Business Development and Estimating on selection of jobs to bid. • Review specifications, scopes, and vendor/subcontractor proposals to ensure accurate scope coverage and bid leveling. • Regularly consult with the estimating team and manager during beginning stage of individual assignments to ensure strategy is being followed. • Provide estimates for projects in the conceptual stage of others. • Update changes to material and labor factors used for bidding in estimating software. • Responsible for reviewing estimates for potential jobs, and preparing change orders and cost estimates. • Reviews construction documents and understands scope of work to bid. • Execute take-offs of construction documents. • Obtains pricing for materials and bids from subcontractors. • Maintain up to date knowledge of material costs, customer trends, and latest product information. • Must manage the proposal process and ensure all requirements are met for a successful proposal submissions to the client. • Providing conceptual estimates without much information provided. • Provide hard bid lump sum competitive estimates. • Attend pre-bid conferences. • Meeting or beating deliverable deadlines. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (preferred, not required) • 3-5 years’ experience in construction management • Basic knowledge of construction of all aspects of construction. • Ability to work rapidly and accurately with plans and computers. • Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills. • Experience with Bluebeam, Microsoft 365. • Ability to bid, negotiate, and manage multifamily construction projects.
