Please visit us at www.onehatonehand.com Position Title: Metal Fabricator / Installer Department: Production – Metal Fabrication Reports To: Production Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: San Francisco, CA Position Summary The Metal Fabricator / Installer is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and installation of structural and decorative metal components, from architectural to large-scale art pieces, in commercial, residential, and public spaces. Work will involve mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, utilizing welding, machining, fitting, and surface finishing techniques. This position requires precision workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and the ability to execute complex assemblies and installations on schedule and within budget. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fabrication & Assembly Read and interpret build drawings, architectural plans, and blueprints Fabricate components using TIG and MIG welding techniques Machine and fit components for accurate assembly Operate shop equipment such as saws, drills, grinders, brakes, shears, mills, and lathes Perform surface preparation and finishing (grinding, polishing, sanding, patching) Maintain quality control throughout the fabrication process Installation Assist in the installation of OHOH projects Ensure secure assembly and structural stability during installation Operate heavy equipment including telehandlers, scissor lifts, and boom lifts during installation activities Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and OSHA standards Use appropriate PPE including welding helmets, respirators, gloves, and eye/ear protection Apply safe rigging and lifting techniques for heavy components Maintain clean and organized work areas in compliance with shop safety standards Required Qualifications Ability to collaborate with a team, and also execute independently on specific instructions. Minimum 3 years of metal fabrication experience in a shop or construction environment Proficiency in TIG and MIG, Certifications a plus Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel Skilled in machining, fitting, and mechanical assembly Knowledge of metal finishing techniques and materials Experience operating telehandlers, scissor lifts, and boom lifts a plus Strong understanding of jobsite safety standards and minimum OSHA 10 hr training Proven ability to execute complex assemblies and installations with consistent quality Forklift and box truck operation experience Rigging and lifting experience for heavy components Ability to meet strict deadlines without sacrificing quality Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record Preferred Qualifications Basic understanding of 3D modeling for viewing purposes in software such as Rhinoceros and Fusion360 Physical Demands and Work Environment Speaking and Hearing: Communicating with colleagues and possibly clients via phone or in person. Near Visual Acuity: Reading and using computer screens require good vision at close distances. Driving: to and from jobsites and meetings Regular use of PPE for welding, cutting, grinding, and handling materials Lifting and Carrying: The ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs is often a requirement. Heavier weights may require the use of proper equipment. Standing and Moving: Stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods throughout a shift. This can include repetitive motions like twisting and bending. Operating Equipment: Proficiency in operating various tools and machinery, including but not limited to welders, plasma cutters, torches, shears, punches, power tools, overhead cranes, and forklifts is often necessary. Manual Dexterity and Hand-Eye Coordination: These skills are important for precise tasks like welding, fabrication, and assembly. Endurance: The ability to work in a fabrication shop environment, which may involve exposure to noise, welding fumes, grinding sparks, and physically demanding conditions, is also a factor. Foremen are also expected to expand their own skillset, take on unfamiliar repairs, test new materials and methods, and contribute to continuous improvement by developing better processes for the field.
