SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES The substitute staff is responsible for filling in for the Early Learning Center and the Little Learning Lab classroom staff and assisting with all classroom activities, including creating a developmentally appropriate inclusive classroom atmosphere where each child's abilities are strengthened and needs are met. Staff must know about children from birth to five and the importance of a nurturing and responsive environment to enhance children’s development. The staff member is responsible for ensuring that all program routines comply with Tennessee Department of Human Services (DHS) licensure guidelines and Emory Valley Center (EVC) standards and regulations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment following licensing guidelines regarding safety, including supervision, cleaning, and sanitizing the classroom.  Support the mission and goals of Emory Valley Center (EVC) in all aspects of work and services and be a supportive and active team member.  Assist children with personal hygiene needs while supporting each child's sense of independence and positive social-emotional development.  Maintain a structured, developmentally appropriate, calm atmosphere while enhancing children’s development and growth.  Follow DHS licensure guidelines, as well as EVC policies and procedures.  Assist in providing engaging classroom activities for active learning and routines, including meal and snack service, nap, and clean up.  Complete required opening and closing tasks as needed.  Report all suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS). Discuss any concerns regarding the safety of children with a supervisor.  Must be able to work independently with children without assistance. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS  Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain calm in a crisis.  Ability to interact with a wide range of people and deal tactfully with the public.  Ability to encourage positive acceptance and education relative to children with disabilities.  Ability to establish a comfortable and supportive relationship with children and their families and show respect for all family values and beliefs.  Uphold the strictest confidentiality standards and follow the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)/HITECH and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  Ability to sit on the floor and play with children.  Ability to sweep, mop, and pick things up off the floor.  Complete ongoing professional development.  Deep appreciation for and commitment to Emory Valley Center’s mission. EDUCATIONAL AND WORK EXPERIENCE  High School Diploma or GED  Preferred experience working with children birth to five.  Must complete all state-required training and certifications. REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES  First Aid, CPR, and any required state training.  Emory Valley Center orientation.  Valid Tennessee driver’s license and good driving record. Requirements Candidates must successfully complete a physical examination and provide a health clearance, as required by state licensing regulations, to ensure they are fit to work in a childcare environment

Fencing Instructor New Amsterdam Fencing Academy (NAFA) is dedicated to bringing our program, and all of its many benefits, to students who love and know fencing and to those who would otherwise never have the opportunity to experience this noble sport. New Amsterdam Fencing Academy (NAFA) seeks a professional and enthusiastic Fencing Instructor to join our team. As a member of the NAFA team of fencing coaches, instructors will be assigned to head after-school and summer camp fencing programs throughout the five boroughs. Responsibilities include daily planning and organization of fencing classes. Coaches are responsible for implementing NAFA fencing courses at after-school programs at area elementary schools, middle schools and community centers. They must be effective and professional communicators with school staff and NAFA staff and administrators. Candidates must be punctual, reliable, personable, organized, and fun! Instructors are responsible for the safety and well-being of groups of children. Instructors must have experience working with children or experience with sport fencing, and preferably both. Candidates with limited experience in one of these two areas will be provided appropriate training. All new hires will be expected to undergo training in NAFA curriculum and pedagogy. Classes to be taught are held between 3:00 and 6:00 Mondays through Fridays throughout the school year and between 10:00 and 4:00 during the summer. Instructors must commit to a full term of classes, between 7 and 16 weeks, for any given program. We understand that competitive fencers often travel, and we fully support their training and competing by flexibly scheduling around these commitments. Positions available for fall/school-year dates Qualifications: Excellent skills and practical experience in sport fencing Successful previous experience working with children, preferably in an after-school program and/or summer camp with great job references Excellent oral and written communication skills This is a paid, hourly position.
