Field Service Technician (san jose north)
424 N 9th St, San Jose, CA 95112, USA
Wanted: Mechanically inclined people who like fixing things. In our case those “things” are machines used in auto repair shops. Think air compressors, tire changers, lifts, oil pumps, and much more. Required: Confidence and mechanical ability. Our technicians perform small miracles every day. They are dispatched to the job site where they encounter hysterical business owners. After calming down the owner, our technicians will diagnose and fix the equipment, often without manuals. Good, general, diagnostic skills are essential. If a system is trying to send oil from pump A to dispense point B, it should be a no-brainer to verify oil is leaving pump A before replacing the dispenser at point B. This is a job where you will be working on your own a lot of the time, so you have to know how to follow instructions when nobody is looking. Also Required: A clean driving record. You will be driving a company truck and the insurance company doesn’t like people who collect speeding tickets while drinking. Job Expectations: We expect people to make mistakes (but not habitually). We expect people to face a learning curve, and require additional training. We expect the occassional broken part, mis-diagnosis, or call for help. We expect that sometimes, a 2 hour job will take 6, but it needs to include a really cool story about space aliens and mermaids. We expect people to have bad days, good days, and mostly average days. We also expect you to follow the procedures you have been trained on, do the things we have verified you know how to do, and use the tools and documentation we have provided so you can do your job safely and efficiently. Failure to follow known procedures is the number one reason new techs don't last long. Offered: 4 day work week, health insurance, company truck, holidays, vacations, winning lottery numbers (0 to 99, pick your order) Also Offered: Training; provided you already have at least 5 years field diagnostic experience in some type of trade. Despite the training, this is not an entry level position. Desired: Air compressor experience. Welding experience. A private island in Tahiti. Also Desired: When you respond, please include a resume and a quick note about why THIS job is interesting. Believe it or not, responses are read by a real, live human. If you send us a thoughtful response, you will get a reply. Oddly, more than half of the candidates we reach out to for an interview, don't return the phone call, email, or text. I'll be over here yelling at the kids to stay off my lawn while I try to figure that out. Warning: We are really good at figuring out who has the technical skills necessary for success. We are not really good at picking people who will do what they are told. It is not a fun experience for us or the tech if we have to part ways. Typical signs a tech won't work out; "I checked those boxes during the inspection because I didn't know what they meant", "I didn't write down the part numbers because I had to get to the next job", "I only had five smoke breaks, not six (said 2 hours into the shift)", "I have to call the customer EVERY time?", "I have to do EVERYTHING on the checklist?", "I didn't count all the parts on the inventory sheet, I just checked them off because I thought they were there.", "Yeah, I know we have a checklist, but I didn't use it.". If you are someone who has said something similar to a boss in the past, bless your heart.
