School Communications & Development Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY
South Coast Montessori (SCM) is seeking an energetic and motivated individual to join our team as a Communications & Development Specialist. This is a part-time position with flexible hours. On-site presence at the school is required.
The Communications & Development Specialist plays a key role in strengthening our school community through fundraising, marketing, and event coordination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising & Social Events:
Lead monthly meetings of the parent Fun & Fundraising Committee (our PTA), guiding families toward successful fundraising and social events throughout the year.
Support and participate in school events such as Trunk-or-Treat, Move-a-thon, Auction Gala, and more.
Assist with grant writing for nonprofit education funding opportunities.
Marketing & Social Media:
Plan, develop, and implement marketing strategies, including print advertising, community events (e.g., Goleta Lemon Festival), and Google Ads.
Oversee creative content and graphic design to ensure brand consistency.
Manage the schoolâs website, calendar, and social media profiles.
Capture photos around campus and during events to generate engaging content.
School & Community Support:
Assist with staff team-building activities, professional development days, and holiday events.
Support admissions events such as Open Houses, New Family Night, and other enrollment activities.
Lead community-building initiatives and outreach efforts to strengthen family engagement and support for the school.
This position is ideal for an experienced development professional seeking a part-time role or for a recent graduate eager to gain valuable experience in the field.
ABOUT SOUTH COAST MONTESSORI
Our beautiful 9-acre, park-like campus is located in a quiet enclave of Goleta. It features thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor classroom environments where children are encouraged to explore freely, guided by their interests and curiosity. We serve children ages 3 months through 6th grade.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Proficiency with Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms.
Strong computer skills, including Google Workspace applications.
Experience with Canva, Photoshop, or similar design software.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and community members.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently with keen attention to detail.
An eye for simple, impactful design and photography.
Strong collaboration skills, positive attitude, and solid work ethic.
Receptiveness to feedback and a growth mindset.
