Primary Areas of Responsibility and Availability Requirements Facilitate Youth Basketball Training Clinics (Year-round offerings of Skills, Drills, Development and Shooting Clinics are paid hourly versus lump sum for Winter) • Create engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for a variety of age groups • Provide support to ensure every participant is engaged and successful • Knowledge of age-appropriate sports coaching and instructional techniques • If given direction from Lakeridge High School Coaching staff – follow their agenda, teach their offense and defense and other drills they recommend Winter Season Coaching (if selected to Head Coach a team) • If invited by LHS Coaching staff, attend tryout process and provide criteria for ALL age groups, not “your team” • Be open to performance feedback and parent survey feedback at the end of each Winter Season • Winter season is a demanding schedule with two 90-minute practices per week, and an option to work an additional shooting clinic some weeks. In a 14–15-week season, teams will play in no less than 8 weekend tournaments (Saturday and Sunday), and up to 12 weekend tournaments including tournaments and state play offs for our most competitive teams. Travel fees for Coastal Tournament and State at Bend (if your team qualifies) are reimbursed at cost to you. Foster a Safe and Productive Environment (Command Presence Skills) • Practice excellent group control and effective communication to ensure participants learn skills correctly and prevent injury, especially in the younger grades where kids struggle to focus • Use age-appropriate behavior techniques to ensure an emotionally healthy experience • Engage in and model positive adult-child interactions between associates and children – this position is not for someone that struggles to control showing frustration or anger Communication & Relationships • Follow Coaching Code of Conduct and Expectations of Paid Coaches Document • Maintain being cleared by LOSD to interact with our players • Provide ideas to continuously improve our organization • Always maintain professionalism with children, parents and other Coaches. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary area of responsibility above satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Our organization also prides ourselves in developing people with Basketball Skills, IQ and playing history but no direct coaching experience. We have roles from an in-training “floater” coach where you will be mentored by seasoned coaching staff, to a Head Coach of Gold Level teams available at this time. Skills & Knowledge • Minimum of three years’ experience playing basketball at the HS level • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting preferred, even if in a volunteer role • Ability to create and implement innovative youth sport or fitness program lesson plans • Passion for youth sports and basketball • Professional, friendly manner and excellent customer service attitude – the players and parents are your customer. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions, especially in an Assistant Coach role • Ability to arrive at work on time for all scheduled work shifts required and be prompt. It is normal to arrive at games 20 minutes early and practices 15 minutes early. You also need to stay until the last player is picked up, every practice • Ability to work weekends, evenings, and maintain a predictable shift for the 13 weeks of Winter season • The location of practices and of Tournaments in this position will change. Tournaments will be the greater Portland area each week, with exception of State (Bend or Salem) and Seaside, OR. Practices for the most part will be the same location or within Lake Oswego city limits but may change intermittently depending on Gym Availability • Ability to stand for entire practices and maintain composure and sit during games • Capable of setting up and taking down shooting machines (after training) • Dependability is the number one priority for you to be a successful coach • Must be computer literate and monitor email provided to your employer weekly Disclaimer This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, skills, duties, requirements, efforts or working conditions associated with this job. Off Season training clinics are offered to those coaches that have a successful winter season and gives them the opportunity to make an hourly wage during Spring, Summer and Fall in addition to the Flat Wage for a winter Coaching Position Salary & Benefits • Salary for a Winter Assistant (Coach in training) is $1,500 flat fee, payable half in January and half in February and reasonable reimbursed expenses that will be discussed if hired – two positions open • Salary for Winter Head Coach with 2+ years coaching experience and verified references is $3,000 flat fee, payable in three installments in Mid-December, Mid-January, and upon completion of your last tournament (Late February or Early March) • Salary for Coaches with 5+ years verified experience are up to Board Approval and capped at $4,000 per Winter Season Salary for Clinics off season are: - Coach in Training (Floater) - $20 an hour, in gym time only, no travel time to/from home - Assistant Coach - $35 an hour, in gym time only, no travel time to/from home - Head Coach of Previous Winter Team- $40-$50 an hour, depending on season, no travel time to/from home - There are no other benefits as far as healthcare. You will be a 1099 Contract employee who is responsible for your taxes on all income provided by LOYTBA to you. You will complete a W9 form and will be solely responsible for holding onto income to pay your taxes at the end of the year.
