GENERAL SUMMARY: Operate and control equipment to support agricultural activities such as tilling soil; planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. May operate stationary equipment to perform post-harvest tasks. In addition, use field implements, attaching and detaching field equipment from tractors to carry out multiple farm preparation tasks. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Conduct safety inspections before operating equipment • Fuel vehicles and check vehicle fluid levels (e.g., transmission, brake, hydraulic system, or radiator) before operation • Report any safety issues to mechanics • Transport field employees/work crews from housing to work sites and back, or transfer employees from one work site to another • Transport empty tomato containers to crew harvest work sites, toilets, drinking water, and/or trailer/truck to move vine tomatoes (Roma and round tomatoes), Brussels sprout containers, tools, and supplies used in daily and general farm operations • Perform tasks in accordance with established safety standards and proper vehicle operating techniques • The employer will comply with all worker protection standards and re-entry restrictions applicable to pesticides and other chemicals used in the fields • Workers must also comply with all applicable worker protection standards and re-entry schedules • Daily individual work assignments will be made by, and at the sole discretion of, the employer based on operational needs • Workers must perform assigned tasks and work at assigned job sites and may not change assignments or job sites without specific authorization from a company supervisor. Workers may be reassigned to a different field site at various times during the workday and/or on different days • Punctuality and attendance are important • Other duties as assigned EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION • High school diploma or GED certificate • Air brakes experience • 2-3 years of driving experience • Able to read, write, and speak Spanish and English • Able to identify delivery orders to unload • Able to read electronic mapping devices West Coast Tomato Growers Job Description • Able to safely operate and maintain trucks in accordance with D.O.T. standards REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English • Valid Class A or B driver’s license • Clean DMV driving record • Must possess appropriate California driver’s license and passenger endorsements to transport agricultural workers • Comply with random D.O.T. drug testing requirements • Pass the required medical vision evaluation for a truck driving career • Must have 70-degree peripheral vision in each eye and good hearing ability to work as a truck driver • Must be able to pass the physical examination required by regulations PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. • Sit for extended periods while turning backward to view the rear of the tractor • Operate the tractor by releasing the brake, shifting gears, pressing pedals, manipulating steering controls, and reading gauges • See or hear obstacles such as ditches, row markers, trees, and traffic • Stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, twist, and walk • Lift and move boxes (selecting product and placing it on a pallet) weighing up to 50–70 pounds continuously from floor level to knee, waist, shoulder, and head height • Must be able to speak clearly and hear audible warning signals such as backup alarms, horns, and buzzers • Must be able to pass a physical examination as required • Must demonstrate a high level of endurance, energy, and strength to successfully perform this position • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly Grip: Grasp, hold, pinch, twist, or otherwise work with hand(s).
