Bay Area Women's Center seeks a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) to join our team. The SANE at the Bay Area Women’s Center is an employee with flexible scheduling, collaborating to set a monthly on-call schedule and responding when a survivor requests an exam. The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program plays a crucial role in a survivor’s healing. The SANE nurse provides compassionate, non-judgmental care to survivors. This care includes assessment for pregnancy and STI, written and photographic documentation, referrals for medical and psychological follow-up, and support during the exam to help the survivor understand the effects of trauma. The medical forensic examination is critical if the survivor chooses to report the assault to law enforcement. Specific Duties: Perform a complete medical-forensic exam, including obtaining a patient history, a head-to-toe physical assessment for trauma, a detailed genital exam, forensic evidence collection, written & photographic documentation, assessing for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate, administering appropriate prophylactic medications per protocols & recommending appropriate referrals. Participate in professional development as determined by the SANE program, including staff meetings, conferences, and in-service training. Respond to requests within 60 minutes of the initial call when on call. Requirements Two years of nursing in the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Women’s Health, or Public Health. Maintain current Registered Nurse licensure or higher. Maintain valid malpractice insurance (1,000,000/3,000,000) (reimbursed by BAWC) Complete preceptor requirements as identified by the SANE Program Complete the initial SANE training through the International Association of Forensic Nursing IAFN (funded by BAWC). Obtain IAFN certification within 3 years of SANE Practice. The SANE is expected to adhere to agency policies and procedures, and protocols set by the Clinical Nurse Manager and/or the management of the SANE Program. Completes other duties as assigned Adheres to all current federal & state laws, as well as hospital Policies and Procedures, including the safeguarding of confidential protected health information and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA). Completes both RN floor orientation as well as Clinical Supervisor.  Completes annual nursing competencies for RN and Clinical Supervisor. Breaks are being taken and are assigned on the staffing sheet for each unit. Assures that all high-risk patients (SI and SAO) patients are located at the front of the unit, near the nursing station and that the rounding sheets have reflecting red and/or purple dots. Round in the med room to assess the cleanliness of the room. Notify the CN to correct if not up to expectation. This includes the glucometer and required documentation. Holds staff accountable. There should be no phones being used, sleeping occurring or staff leaving the units without permission. Completes face-to-face for emergency restraints and seclusion. Assures that staff completed all required documentation. Review your emails and respond on your shift before you leave each day. Present any disciplinary or training information to staff as directed. Complete 90-day evaluation on all your staff. Provide input for annual staff evaluations. Complete daily Clinical Supervisor shift report accurately. Other duties upon request. Requirements Licensure: Current RN license to practice in the State of TX required, BSN preferred. Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program Experience: Two years of management experience preferred in an Inpatient Mental Health setting. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required. Certification in Cardiac Credentialing (CCRN or RCIS) is a plus.
