Prepares operating reports and maintains station records. Operates and controls low, medium, and high voltage switchgear. Heat Treat Operator Pay: $24.71 per hour Shift: 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Location: Warren, MI Summary: The Heat Treat Operator will be responsible for performing various operations within the Heat Treat area as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Perform light maintenance tasks to ensure furnaces are ready for processing work orders (confined space work will be outsourced to a vendor). Maintenance duties include keeping flow scopes in good condition and conducting minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs, such as replacing heating elements. Read and interpret work tickets generated in the lab. Group parts to be processed together as needed. Prepare loads for furnace processing, either manually or using a hoist. Use a roller cart to transfer trays with parts to the furnaces and load them into the furnaces. Set furnace cycles, including times and atmospheres, and monitor each furnace's progress during the cycle. After the cycle is completed, unload parts and return them to their original containers. Copper plate small parts (e.g., retainers) through progressive tank dipping on the plating line, and strip the copper after the cycle is finished. Charge and discharge the chromizing furnace once a day, which involves loosening and re-tightening 8 bolts on each of the two chromizing furnaces. Maintain proper documentation for each work order, including signing off on furnace processing charts. Occasionally place parts in a -100°F freezer. Perform shot peening on retainers. Environmental Chemical Contacts: In the Heat Treat Department, employees may have brief exposure to the following chemicals: Quench oils, lubricating oils, tri-valent chrome (solid chrome), zirconium, ammonium iodide, hexavalent chromium (chromic acid), sulfuric acid, cupric sulfate, endothermic gas, natural gas, and anhydrous ammonia. Additionally, employees will work with furnaces at elevated temperatures, up to 1750°F. Critical Competencies: Strong mechanical aptitude. Ability to understand and follow work instructions. Basic computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel. Requirements Physical Demands and Work Environment: For smaller parts (less than 10 lbs.), tasks are repetitive, such as placing parts in and out of containers and heat treat baskets. For heavier parts, lifting devices, jib hoists, lifting tables, and magnets are available. Loading and unloading baskets typically takes 1 to 3 hours per day. Occasionally, more physical effort is needed when pushing or pulling loads on the roller cart and shifting them in and out of furnaces. Unbolting and bolting eight bolts on the chrome furnace access doors requires force and is done one to two times daily, as the heat/cool cycle lasts 24 hours. Education and Experience Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of experience in a precision machining manufacturing environment. Knowledge of G&M Codes. Experience with manual turning, milling, drilling, or CNC mill, lathe, broach, and drilling operations is required. Experience with a Key Seater is preferred. Proficiency in GD&T and the ability to read technical drawings. Familiarity with machine tools and inspection tools such as gauge blocks, dial indicators, calipers, and micrometers. Knowledge of insert tooling nomenclature. Ability to follow work instructions accurately.
