Description

We are currently seeking an Electric Lead Engineer in LaBella’s Program Management Services Division at our client’s office in Binghamton, NY. The Program Management Services Division at LaBella provides comprehensive management services for complex projects and multi-year capital programs. Project teams are established to provide a customized mix of business consulting, project management, financial control and monitoring, administrative, and technical support services. This position is for our client in the electric utility industry. The candidate will be responsible for high voltage, medium voltage, and low voltage transmission and distribution line designs for with strong focus specifically in Electrical Distribution systems in the Rochester, NY area. The Lead Engineer will work closely with the construction and design team to develop drawings, specifications, and construction work orders to support the design, construction, and commissioning of electrical equipment. Individual must be able to work independently, as well as part of multi-discipline teams producing electrical engineering documents. Position reports to a Unit Manager Line but will work day-to- day in a cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the project manager(s). Salary Range: $100,000-$140,000 The specific salary offered may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location.  Responsibilities Capital project engineering performance including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, contract management and design, engineering design, construction, commissioning, and closeout. Perform field circuit reviews based on the project scope given and identify proposed improvements. Review sketches that include existing and proposed work actions according to approved construction standards. Oversee and coordinate with internal and external resources the detailed designs according to approved construction standards. Review design inputs for SAP system notifications and approve corresponding construction work orders. Review and approve design detail to provide overview of work to be performed by line and commissioning contractors. Create engineering bid documents with a focus on unit-based pricing for all projects within the service territory. Interface with Construction and Commissioning resources to ensure efficient equipment installations. Proactively develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve unique problems or to improve processes/services. Other duties as assigned. For Lead Engineers: Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers. Willingness to have a hybrid office/remote schedule including field work required Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department. Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills Ability to collaborate across departments Liaison/direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices Work independently with little supervision Requirements Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering Professional Engineering License Preferred Knowledge on distribution designs and construction preferred Experience/Training: 5+ years of relevant experience Experience working with Contractors Experience in the delivery of projects, as necessary. Experience working on overhead electrical distribution projects preferred Computer literacy - Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access and Word. SAP and Primavera experience is a plus Understands how to read a circuit diagram Technical Skills/Competencies Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization) - Advanced Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.") - Advanced Engineering documentation – Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation - Advanced Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others - to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements - Advanced Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment – Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements - Advanced Preferred Qualifications: General Skills Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills to decipher unique technical and analytical problems, Proven ability to lead and manage projects, Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate highly technical concepts, Strong management and leadership skills, ability to drive change and adoption of new technologies. Knowledge of the regulatory environment including relevant output and incentive mechanisms. General contract, commercial and regulatory awareness with the ability to balance effective and efficient customer service and project delivery, ensuring maximum return on investment. Track record of effective stakeholder and customer service engagement and management. Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels Ability to manage competing priorities using sound engineering and financial judgment to determine optimal solutions Awareness and understanding of key business drivers Ability to devise solutions to both common and complex problems/challenges. Where appropriate, technical, and operational experience in a relevant engineering role within a utility environment. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsible for knowing all aspects of client and project safety requirements and for enforcing them throughout their jobsite. Ensure a safe workplace is established and maintained. Ensure efficient usage of manpower, material, and equipment. Coordinate the day-to-day activities of all direct-hire and subcontracted labor. Ensure subcontractors are working to the current project schedule, and that subcontractors are productively executing their work. Ensure all standards are met or exceeded. Coordinate the completion of any punch list items. Strive for “Zero Punch List”. Establish a positive relationship with the owner’s representative. Documentation of daily Procore progress reports including photographs, file meeting minutes from all job site meetings, and highlight information that may affect project cost, schedule, or quality to the Project and/or Construction Manager. Anticipate and avoid potential cost and schedule impacts. Develop an understanding of the project scope and requirements. Work with the Project and/or Construction Manager to develop the detailed schedule control reporting documentation. Along with the Project Manager, develop a close-out and turnover plan.
