Best Consideration Date: Friday, August 1, 2025 PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Senior Data Insight Analyst plays a critical role in developing the insights and predictive analytics needed to support data-informed decision making across the University System of Maryland (USM). The responsibility of this position is full ownership of data projects, from problem definition to modeling, visualization, and documentation. The Senior Data Insight Analyst works closely with cross-functional teams to manage and analyze data; develop predictive models and algorithms; and translate data insights into strategic recommendations for USM leadership and stakeholders across the System. RESPONSIBILITIES: Predictive Modeling & Advanced Analytics: Develops and deploys predictive models (e.g., for enrollment projections, retention, workforce development) using Python/R and SQL. Conducts independent data analyses and builds visual reports to support institutional decision-making at the system level. Data Management & Engineering: Extracts, cleans, and manages data from data warehouse and ancillary databases. Designs and maintains scalable, well-documented data pipelines and analytical solutions. Validates data accuracy and ensures consistency across reporting systems. Collaboration & Strategic Support: Collaborates with departments and institutions to support strategic planning, student success, and outcome assessments. Assists, reviews, and contributes to Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) reporting and data management. Documentation & Governance: Documents analytical processes, model logic, and data workflows for reproducibility and transparency. Upholds data governance, privacy, and equity-focused modeling practices. ANNUAL SALARY: $95,000-$120,000 Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required Education Level/Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field. Required Experience: 3 years of experience in data analytics, institutional research, or a related role. At least 1 of those 3 years must include hands-on work in predictive analytics Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Proficiency in SQL and Python or R for data modeling and analysis. Skill in building predictive models and translating insights into strategic recommendations. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical content to non-technical audiences. Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully across different roles, technical backgrounds, and organizational levels. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven, fast-changing environment. Ability to integrate predictive outputs into decision tools such as Power BI dashboards. High attention to detail and a strong commitment to data accuracy and integrity. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. Curiosity and a desire to explore beyond the immediate task to uncover deeper insights. Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, technologies, and approaches. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Education Level/Certifications: Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Social Sciences, or related field. Preferred Experience: Experience in higher education analytics. Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Understanding of data ethics, bias mitigation, and data privacy best practices. Skill in the use of AI tools and techniques (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, or generative AI) to enhance data analysis, uncover insights, and support decision-making. Skill in the use of Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, and visual storytelling. Knowledge of federal and state reporting requirements and familiarity with the higher education landscape, including enrollment trends, student outcomes, and policy frameworks.
