Key Responsibilities
• Formwork & Layout:
Set and align forms to achieve the desired depth and pitch for concrete placement.
• Concrete Placement:
Signal truck drivers for positioning and move the truck's chute to direct the flow of concrete into forms.
• Spreading & Leveling:
Use tools like rakes, shovels, and screeds to spread and level the concrete to the required depth and consistency.
• Finishing:
Smooth, shape, and finish the concrete surface with floats, power trowels, and other tools.
• Molding & Curing:
Mold edges and expansion joints using jointers and edging tools, and apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure the concrete.
• Surface Repair:
Patch rough or defective spots and use abrasive stones to rub the surface for a desired finish.
• Jobsite Preparation:
Prepare job sites by cleaning surfaces and performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Safety Compliance:
Follow all safety policies and guidelines on the job site.
Required Skills & Physical Demands
• Manual Dexterity and Coordination:
Must be able to use hands, arms, and multiple limbs to operate tools and perform tasks efficiently.
• Physical Stamina:
The work is physically demanding, requiring time spent standing, bending, and kneeling.
• Tool Proficiency:
Ability to operate various hand and power tools like trowels, floats, screeds, and power saws.
• Attention to Detail:
Must ensure concrete meets specified requirements and quality standards.
• Physical Strength:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform other physically strenuous tasks.
Work Environment
• Construction Sites: Concrete finishers work outdoors and indoors on various construction projects.
• Noisy Conditions: Work is often in loud and noisy environments.
• Teamwork: Collaborates with other construction tradespeople to complete projects.
