The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) offers several Mechanic Apprenticeship Programs: • Wayside – Electro-Mechanical Technician Apprentice (Assistant Lineman) • Light Rail Vehicle – Electro-Mechanical Technician Apprentice (Assistant Lineman) • Trackperson • Bus Mechanic* (*to apply for the Bus Mechanic Apprenticeship program, candidates must first start out as a Servicer A (Bus Cleaner). Check out our Servicer A (Bus Cleaner) position for more information) Each program varies, but generally is a 4-year program, leading to a rewarding career dedicated to enhancing public transportation for America's finest city. The Apprentice Carpenter’s principal duty is to assist the lead Carpenter and Site Superintendents with task preparation and site clean-up as directed. The Apprentice Carpenter is under supervision of the Site Superintendent on each project and reports directly to the Director of Construction. *This position requires travel within California and Northern Nevada. Projects outside of 50 miles from Sacramento typically require out-of-town stay during the workweek. Typical schedule is Monday-Friday; hours and location varies based on job schedule.
