Position Title: Senior Mason Division: Design Build Division Reports To: Project Manager and Division Manager Employment Type: Full-time, Year-round, Hourly Position Summary The Senior Mason at MainStay Landscape is a highly skilled craftsperson responsible for leading and executing complex masonry projects with precision, efficiency, and artistry. This role involves working on a range of hardscape installations including stone walls, patios, walkways, steps, veneers, and other custom masonry features. The Senior Mason plays a key role in ensuring that projects meet the highest standards of quality while mentoring less experienced team members in proper masonry techniques. The Senior Mason works closely with the Project Manager and Division Manager to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with MainStay’s reputation for excellence. Key Responsibilities Masonry Expertise & Execution • Perform advanced masonry work including layout, cutting, fitting, and setting stone, brick, block, and veneer. • Lead the installation of patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and other custom stone features. • Operate masonry tools and equipment safely and efficiently, including saws, mixers, grinders, and compactors. • Ensure proper site preparation, grading, and drainage for all masonry projects. Project Leadership • Work under the direction of the Project Manager and Division Manager to complete project tasks according to specifications. • Provide on-site leadership and training for junior masons, installers, and laborers. • Assist in project planning, including material take-offs, tool preparation, and site setup. • Monitor progress to ensure projects are completed with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail. Quality Control & Safety • Uphold MainStay’s quality standards for all masonry work. • Ensure proper mixing of mortars, adhesives, and jointing compounds. • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site. • Follow all company and industry safety protocols. Collaboration & Communication • Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Division Manager, designers, and crew members. • Provide feedback on project design and feasibility during installation. • Interact professionally with clients, answering questions and explaining processes when necessary. Qualifications & Skills • 5+ years of proven experience in masonry, stonework, and hardscape installation. • Mastery of masonry techniques including dry stone, mortared stone, veneer, and brick/block laying. • Strong knowledge of construction methods, grading, and drainage. • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and site plans. • Experience leading crews and mentoring less experienced workers. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. • Ability to operate masonry and construction equipment. • Hoisting License preferred. • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
