General Manager at Colossus

Are you passionate about creating exceptional cafe experiences and leading a motivated team? Look no further! Colossus, a cozy and vibrant cafe in San Pedro, CA, is seeking an experienced General Manager to help us deliver outstanding service and maintain our reputation as a neighborhood favorite.
What You'll Be Doing
● Oversight/management of all staff, mentorship, and indirect management of other staff members through example
● Giving verbal and written warnings to employees when needed
● Conducting 6 month and 1-year reviews of direct employees
● Attend weekly manager meetings to review current food costs, general upkeep, staffing and culture. Contribute constructive feedback and solutions to further a culture of community hospitality, tolerance and cooperation, and collaborative growth for the company, our customers, and our community.
● Upkeep and monitoring of all cafe equipment, regular communication with other leaders and owners regarding upkeep, including:
○ Espresso Machine and Grinders
○ Batch Brewer
○ Refrigeration and Ice Machine
○ Cafe Furniture and general appearance and upkeep of dining room, retail wall, and bread/pastry display.
● Manager responsible for baristas and service staff:
○ Daily schedule
○ Cleaning tasks/side work
○ Break Schedule, ensure employees take lunch breaks and 10-minute breaks when needed
○ Uniform Compliance
○ Customer service performance
○ General job performance
● Ensure that all labor numbers fit into the appropriate budget for Colossus and the sustained growth and prosperity of the restaurant long term.
● Review timesheets weekly and ensure they are accurate in time for payroll.
● Participate in the interview and hiring process. Including but not limited to:
○ Coordinating and managing interviews
○ Coordinating/engaging in panel interviews with CDC, and owner.

What We're Looking For
We’re searching for someone who is:
- Experienced: You bring at least 3 years of experience in a management role, ideally in a cafe or food service environment.
- A Self-Starter: You’re motivated, proactive, and ready to take ownership of your role.
- Hard-Working: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and lead by example.
- Organized and Detail-Oriented: You have a knack for keeping things running smoothly, even during the busiest times.
- A Team Player: You believe in fostering a positive and supportive team culture.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
● Maintains a safe environment for all employees and customers
● Must possess a food safety manager certification or be willing to attain one within the first 30 days of employment
● Availability for both weekend days and overall schedule availability
● Must be able to provide reliable transportation to/from work
● Must be proficient with Email, Google Drive, Slack and Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation
● Ability to move about the cafe space frequently throughout shift
● Ability to operate job related tools, such as espresso machines and coffee brewers
● Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and customers
● Ability to frequently move prep items in bins weighing up to 40lbs
● Exposure to kitchen environment with hot surfaces
