Seamstress / Fabricator – Creative Soft Goods Studio (SOMA, San Franci (SOMA / south beach)
Hi there, I’m looking for a talented seamstress/fabricator—or someone with related experience—to join my small, friendly soft goods workroom in SOMA. The studio stays busy with custom projects for interior designers and one-of-a-kind pieces that lean a little artistic. About the Studio: I’ve been working in high-end custom soft goods for residential interiors in San Francisco for over 13 years, including the last three running my own small business. We fabricate: • Drapery • Roman shades • Cushions and pillows • Installation and hardware sourcing Although I currently offer full-service fabrication for design firms, I may soon pivot to narrow my focus toward more one-of-a-kind artistic pieces and a small line of my own soft-goods products. I’ll need help with both the fabrication and shipping of those items as that side of the business develops. I value a calm, respectful workspace where ideas and good craftsmanship matter. Who I’m Looking For: I’d love to hear from people with sewing or fabrication experience—whether you’ve been doing this for years or you’re still learning but passionate and detail-oriented. • Ideally, you’d work in my SOMA studio • For the right person, I’m open to subcontract work from your own studio or home • Part-time or full-time possibilities • For the right candidate who’s eager and driven, I can teach on the job—especially skills related to textile-based craft and fabrication • Open to discussing shared involvement in the business (or parts of it) with someone interested in taking on both the risk and reward of helping grow a small creative company Let’s Connect: Please don’t hesitate to reach out—even if you already have a full-time job or aren’t actively looking right now. I’d love to meet others in the community who do this kind of work, talk shop, and see where there might be overlap or future opportunities. I’m always happy to hop on a short phone call, say hello, and chat a bit about what I’m building. Interested? Send me an email telling me a bit about yourself and what kind of work you’re looking for—or what kind of work you’d like to be doing. I’m especially interested in hearing from entrepreneurial, self-motivated people who enjoy shaping their own path and want to collaborate on building something together. If you’d like to get started, we can simply have a short phone call to talk through your situation and see if it makes sense to meet in person. If English isn’t your first language and a phone call feels difficult, please let me know. We can meet in person instead, or arrange for someone you trust to help with an introductory call or email so your ideas and experience come through clearly. A Note on Inclusivity: Everyone is welcome to apply. I’m open to working with people of any age, gender, background, language ability, or any and all orientations. What matters most to me is honesty, skill, curiosity, and a genuine desire to do good work. I’d also like to put extra emphasis on welcoming applicants who may be further along in their professional journey. I understand that some people worry their age might count against them when applying for creative or technical roles—but that’s not the case here. I truly value the perspective and depth of experience that come from years in this craft. Whether you’re just starting out or have decades of experience, you’ll be treated with respect, and your skills will be appreciated on their own merits. I’m also willing to consider applicants whose English is limited. If your first language is Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, or another language, please feel free to reach out. I’ve studied both Mandarin and Spanish a little, and I’m open to seeing whether we can make communication work effectively together.
