The Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange is looking for an experienced head mechanic who can tackle more advanced jobs like brake bleeds and suspension servicing (forks and shocks) balanced with strong knowledge of component compatibility. Unlike a commercial bike shop that sells only new bikes, we receive interesting bikes and parts spanning many decades of cycling history and all categories of bikes (road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrids, cross/gravel, kid’s bikes and more). Key Responsibilities: Execute successful repairs independently to the satisfaction of BikeX QA standards. Communicate with customers in person regarding the status of their bicycle repair. Complete daily tasks as assigned within prescribed timelines while communicating any exceptions to the shop manager. Maintain tools and bench areas on a daily basis according to BikeX standards. Become familiar with BikeX’s' safety protocols. Wear safety equipment as required when using the grinder,air compressor, drills, power tools etc. Learn and follow safety procedures when utilizing degreasers, lubricants and ultrasonic parts cleaner. Learn and follow proper disposal of materials (recycle, compost, trash). Be a team player who collaborates with our small staff and dozens of volunteers to maintain a clean and organized workspace, share bike maintenance knowledge and tips, and assist with inventory management and parts ordering.
