Part-Time Associate (Bloomington)
FROM:RECRUITMENT ATTORNEY MINNESOTA, LLC DATE: SEPTEMBER 26, 2025 My firm helps recruit for attorneys looking for support staff. We are presently assisting an attorney located in the Twin City area who is searching for a LICENSED attorney who has passed the bar but lacks “real world” legal experience. This candidate must be willing to work part-time for the remainder of 2025 at a "below-market" rate in order to learn how to actually “practice law” in the areas of estate planning and probate. Many of us who have graduated from law school- and passed the bar- and actually practiced law for a time agree that law school doesn’t really teach you how to do what lawyers actually do from day-to-day. My client’s practice areas presently include estate planning, probate, elder law, and real estate law. We are looking for a person who would be OK with being paid for only about 20 hours per week of employment at a pay rate of $30.00 per hour. The “quid pro quo” for this arrangement would be receiving a great deal of training and “onboarding” for the balance of the year. If things work out on both sides, remuneration for the year 2026 would be discussed in January, 2026. This position would be ideal for a person who would be OK with work half time for the months of October through December of 2025. It would also be a good fit for a person who would eventually like to own his or own law firm—but doesn’t have the experience or financial ability to “hang up a shingle” yet. If you consider yourself an entrepreneur and a business-person (rather than just a “lawyer”), I encourage you to send a resume and cover letter and I will forward both to my client for his consideration. Your cover letter should explain WHY you are interested in this (unusual) position offering very modest compensation and should also explain what practice areas you have been most interested in since graduating from law school. It should also state your interest in some day owning your own law firm—if that is the case. If you would consider a position like this only as a “placeholder” while you look for a “real law job” (which would pay you from $80,000 to $100,000 per year), please don’t bother responding to this ad. Also, if you have not graduated from law school yet, or if you have not passed the bar yet, please do not reply to this ad. My client is looking for someone who can start assisting with consultations and estate planning document executions right away to save him time. He is also looking for someone who is positive, motivated, ambitious, and interested in learning how to handle actual cases and dealing with real clients rather than just doing legal research or wasting time with traditional law school methods such as learning by the “Socratic method”. He is not looking for a Harvard graduate, as he has been practicing law for many years and observed that WHERE a person attended law school is overrated—as is the person’s grade point average. A positive mental attitude, a desire to learn, persistence and a pleasant personality are a great deal more valuable than the other stuff. If you enjoy the position, and my client feels that you are a solid candidate for a “real” (full time) associate attorney position, the year 2025 could be entirely different for you. If you meet the criteria outlined above and are willing to follow these simple instructions, we look forward to hearing from you. Note: A similar ad to this one was placed in late 2023 and 2024, and only ONE of the individuals who responded to the ad even followed these simple instructions (i.e., sent the cover letter requested, etc.). I would expect more from a member of the bar and a law school graduate. If you cannot follow these simple instructions, we will not waste our valuable time corresponding with you. Thanks.
