Description

We’re looking for a technical leader with deep marketplace experience to own and scale the technology behind Station A’s clean energy marketplace. This is the engine that transforms clean energy opportunities into real projects by connecting buyers and providers through open, transparent competition. The ideal candidate thrives in an early-stage, fast-moving environment, but insists on building scalable systems, shaping technical culture, and translating engineering excellence into marketplace growth. About the role Finding clean energy opportunities is only the first step. The real challenge is getting projects transacted and built at scale. Today, most transactions in clean energy are slow, opaque, and manual. Buyers struggle to get competitive, apples-to-apples bids. Providers spend enormous time chasing projects that go nowhere. The result is higher costs, wasted time, and fewer megawatts deployed. At Station A, our marketplace changes this dynamic by creating open, standardized, and transparent workflows for clean energy transactions. Buyers get firm, competitive pricing. Providers gain efficient access to qualified projects. And the market as a whole benefits from lower origination costs and faster deployment. This role is about leading the technology that powers our transaction platform. You will own the marketplace stack that enables project listing, bidding, evaluation, and award. You will ensure our systems are scalable, trusted, and efficient as we grow to thousands of projects and billions in clean energy transactions. If you’re excited about scaling a marketplace that drives liquidity, efficiency, and trust in one of the most important markets of our time, we’d love to talk. Who we are Station A is a technology company reimagining how clean energy is bought and sold. Our remote-first team is made up of climate-minded technologists, strategists, and operators committed to making climate action a no-brainer for everyone. We combine proprietary software with industry expertise to guide commercial real estate owners and operators through their decarbonization journey, starting with evaluation of their portfolios and culminating in transactions through our clean energy marketplace. Compensation Company stage: Series A (post fundraise) Reports to: Head of Product Preferred Locations: San Francisco, Los Angeles, elsewhere in CA (Remote OK) We believe in pay transparency. The annual base salary for this role is $165k - $210k, with performance-based annual bonus and stock options. Learn more about our benefits here. What you’ll do As Technical Lead, Transaction, you’ll combine hands-on engineering with leadership to grow and scale Station A’s marketplace platform. You will: Own the architecture and scalability of the marketplace platform, including project posting, bidding, evaluation, and award workflows. Design and deliver full-stack product features that simplify and standardize transactions for buyers and providers. Improve marketplace trust and efficiency by developing systems that handle repeat bidding, bid comparisons, and transparent reporting. Set and uphold engineering standards for reliability, performance, and maintainability. Mentor engineers and model best practices, helping the team scale while raising the technical bar. Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, Sales, and Marketplace Services to align marketplace features with business goals and user needs. Plan for scale by designing systems that can support higher project volume, new transaction types, and increased liquidity. Requirements You might be a fit if you have… 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of a multi-sided marketplace, platform, or transactional product. Proven ability to design and scale complex systems that support workflows, bidding, payments, or contracts. Strong experience with modern web stacks (Python, TypeScript, SQL databases), and comfort with cloud infrastructure (GCP or equivalent). Knowledge of marketplace dynamics such as liquidity, trust & safety, pricing transparency, and incentive design. Familiarity with fintech integrations (payments, KYC/AML, escrow, etc.) or enterprise contracting systems. Ability to mentor engineers and grow a culture of quality, ownership, and learning. Strong communication skills, especially the ability to translate technical tradeoffs into business impacts. Bonus points for… Prior experience building B2B marketplaces or transactional SaaS platforms. Exposure to clean energy, infrastructure, or climate tech. Experience with smart contract systems or innovative contracting/payment tech. A strong personal network of engineers who would want to work with you again. Why this role matters Marketplace growth is core to Station A’s business. This role is responsible for the technology that makes transactions fast, fair, and scalable. Liquidity and efficiency are everything in marketplaces. You will design the systems that drive trust and repeat use by both buyers and providers. This is about impact at scale. Every deal closed through Station A means megawatts of clean energy deployed and millions in origination costs saved. Location & Travel Preferred: San Francisco, Los Angeles, or California-based to align with core engineering hours and enable periodic in-person collaboration. Anticipated travel: 1x/year for all-company retreat; quarterly engineering meetups (2–3 days each). Benefits We’re committed to supporting a healthy, sustainable life outside of work: Remote-friendly work environment (U.S.-based) with coworking options Flexible PTO Monthly remote work stipend ($50/mo or $600/yr) Learning & development budget to support your professional growth Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance (including FSA and HSA options) 401(k) plan, with matching on the roadmap 12-15 paid holidays annually Why you might be excited about this role You believe transactions should be simpler, faster, and more transparent, and you are excited to drive standards that make clean energy deals as seamless as buying software. You see the potential for technology to reduce friction and waste in an industry that is still analog and fragmented. You’re motivated by the idea that every workflow you simplify or automate could unlock more projects, more savings, and more megawatts deployed. You’re excited to apply your engineering leadership toward systems change with real carbon impact. You enjoy building teams, mentoring, and leaving systems better than you found them. Our Commitment We believe diverse perspectives fuel better ideas and stronger outcomes. If you are excited about this role—even if you don’t meet 100% of the qualifications—we encourage you to apply. Station A is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive, respectful workplace. Hiring decisions are based solely on qualifications, merit, and business needs.
