Description

At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 2.5 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day. We are looking for two highly skilled and experienced Senior/Staff Electronics Engineers to lead the in-depth investigations and field failure analysis of electronic systems and components. This is a key technical role, responsible for pinpointing the root cause of failures, leading teardowns, and implementing corrective actions to mitigate future issues. You will be at the core of our Engineering Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) program, working closely with the Quality department, Member Experience, and Data Analytics teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in failure analysis of electrical systems, electronics testing methods, and circuit design. As a senior team member, you will also provide technical leadership and collaborate cross-functionally to drive effective solutions that enhance product reliability and improve the customer experience. This is a hybrid role in our San Francisco office (2-3 days) What you will do: Field Failure Analysis & Investigations: Lead detailed failure analysis and teardowns of low-power electronics at the system and component level. You'll work with products returned from the field, using a data-driven approach to pinpoint the exact root cause of failure. Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) Ownership: Take full ownership of the CAPA process for electronics failures, from initial investigation through to verification of the implemented fix. You will drive the implementation of corrective actions and mitigations based on your analysis. Risk Assessment: Evaluate the risk of new components or design changes based on field failure data, providing clear, data-backed recommendations to the hardware team to prevent future issues. Technical Reporting and Communication: Prepare and present detailed technical reports and summaries of failure investigations to a wide range of audiences, from engineering peers to executive leadership, influencing product and business decisions. Component Management: Evaluate and select alternative components (2nd sources), ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness without compromising quality. Your work will be a direct outcome of investigations into component-related failures. Production Testing & Optimization: Review and improve production test coverage for electronics. This includes reviewing schematics and PCB layouts to identify potential optimizations that enhance system performance and manufacturing test effectiveness. Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, firmware, manufacturing, and quality engineers to drive effective solutions and improvements. Vendor & Partner Management: Work with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and technology providers to deliver the desired quality of components and services. Your focus here will be on partnering to resolve identified failure modes. Requirements We would love to have you on our team if you have: Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of experience in electronics design and verification, with at least 3-5 years in a senior engineering role, including project leadership. Senior/Staff offer will depend on overall experience and interviews.  Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related technical field. Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in troubleshooting electrical systems and failure analysis including analog and digital circuit design, Bluetooth, wireless power transfer, high-speed interfaces, power management, and embedded systems. Hands-on experience with building and validating prototypes, using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, and spectrum analyzers. Tools & Methodologies: Experience with design tools such as schematics and layout tools (e.g., Altium) and signal/power integrity analysis. Strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Demonstrated experience with CAPA processes and technical risk assessment. Leadership: Proven ability to interact within engineering teams and deliver complex, multi-disciplinary projects. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work effectively across internal teams and external partners, including the ability to present technical findings to non-technical audiences.
