The Eames Institute is in search of a Facilities Technician to oversee the maintenance of our 15,000-square-foot (and growing) campus in Richmond, CA. Reporting to the Senior Director of Properties, this role is responsible for ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for our staff, guests, and collections. The Facilities Technician will play a key role in maintaining the overall safety, security, cleanliness, and functionality of our campus, which currently operates out of two buildings and will soon expand into a third. The site includes workspaces for Eames Institute staff as well as warehouse spaces for the Eames Archives. The ideal candidate is self-driven and energized by the opportunity to maintain and support one of the world’s most significant Eames collections. *** Learn more and apply at: www.eamesinstitute.org *** KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain Facilities, Grounds and Equipment • Unlock and open the main building at the beginning of the daily shift. • Serve as point person for all Richmond facilities-related contractors and vendors, coordinating with the Senior Director of Properties on scheduling and overseeing services provided. • Tend to overall maintenance of the property, which includes heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R), electrical, plumbing, carpentry, custodial, and grounds activities, adhering to maintenance schedules for equipment. • Ensure excellent standard of cleanliness throughout the buildings, executing on routine janitorial cleaning duties and other cleaning tasks as they arise. • Complete inventory and supply orders in accordance with the Senior Director of Properties and Senior Director of Operations. • Provide trash management, including staging trash containers for pick-up. • Secure and lock the buildings at the end of the daily shift. • Maintain updated SDS sheets for the facility.  Provide Facilities Support to Onsite Staff • Ensure smooth daily operation of property and respond to staff needs and requests with thorough execution. • Assist the Collections team with the moving and arranging of Collections pallets and items. • Serve as point person for shipping and receiving, including communication and proper storage for incoming objects. • Be available for infrequent after-hours emergencies. • Operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and pallet jacks. (Currently hold a forklift certification or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire.) • Occasionally respond to requests of two low-maintenance tenants, escalating to the Senior Director of Properties as needed. • Support staff at other locations, such as Eames Ranch and Stout bookstore, as needed and agreed to with Senior Director of Properties. Electrician – Teacher needed for Tiny House Class This is kind of a long post. So sorry. I have a really cool opportunity for just the right person. I am a carpenter in Sebastopol. I have a carpentry school that I have been doing now for the 4th season. This year I am teaching a class called “How to Build a Tiny House” The class sold out immediately and we are 2/3rds finished with the build. The class is divided into 8 “modules” We just finished the 5th module which was “Plumbing” The next module will be “Electrical” I am the teacher for all the building but although I do do my own plumbing and some electrical, I don’t feel qualified to “teach” these classes. I found an amazing plumber who participated teaching the class with me and overseeing all the work we did. I now need an electrician to do same. Here is how the class works. The class spans 2 weeks. Classes are from 10am – 5 pm Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday. Each week. The dates for this session will be: Thursday October 9 Friday October 10 Saturday October 11 Sunday October 12 Thursday October 16 Friday October 17 Saturday October 18 Sunday October 19 This is an extraordinary position for the right person. I envision this being either a retired “old timer” who still wants to get their hands dirty once in a while passing on their lifelong knowledge to eager adults working hard to learn all aspects of building your own tiny house. Or someone who owns their own company so they would have flexibility to set their own hours to work around these 8 class dates. This person would come to our class for only two hours in the morning, from 10 am – 12 noon, to teach. 4 new students each day. Then the last hour from 4pm-5pm “inspecting” our work. The first hour would be beginning electrical system concepts and some info on how to plan an electrical system for a small dwelling. Then the second hour would be some hands-on skill building.I will provide all supplies and tools for class. Obviously, we can’t that cover much in 2 hours. For the plumbing class we discussed the general principals of a house plumbing system then we did some hands-on skills. Then the teacher gives us a project to do in the house so we can get experience with the lessons we learned with actual installation of our electrical system in my tiny house. For example, class would cover the installation of romex and electric boxes and switches and lights. The teacher would then come back at 4pm for one hour walk through checking our work and critique. The class is mostly adults over 50. There are 32 students. 4 different students each of the 8 days. We cover the same material each day. Very easy and fun.
